91' Camaro 305 TBI vs. 96' Jeep Cherokee?
The low down, my car has intake, bullet muffler and exhaust cutout, his car has a flowmaster muffler.
Now, there's no reason to get cocky, I've ridden in his car and he is a good friend of mine. He never ever brags and is always willing to have a race when challenged.
His car packs quite a good punch, he says he has around 190-200 hp but he has buttloads of torque.
Anyway, my car doesnt have that much done to it, if I was to guesstimate hp, I'd probably say it has around 190-195hp, its lightly modded and in good condition.
Tranny was rebuilt very recently so the car performs alot better than before, however I do have bog at lower rpms on some days and other days its perfectly fine and hauls ***...
I dunno, if I could take him, I might be able to take him from a roll and slowly edge him out, I don't know if I can factor in the weight difference (Jeeps weigh about 3800lbs) its not a slow car at all, of course he drives it very differently from how I drive my car.
Anyway who do you think would win? I don't know, I think he has this one, until I can do a few more things to my car that is.

One of my friends has a 99 or 2000 cherokee and thinks its gods gift to man. ITs got the 4.0 liter in it. He took me for a ride in it one day and he had to stomp on it around a turn from a standstil to even spin the tires. And then he floored it for me and it felt deathly slow. I looked at times for a early-mid 90's cherokke and it was like 0-60 10 seconds and like an 18 second 1/4 mile but in 2000 the times were like 8.4 0-60 and maybe like 16's in the 1/4 miles. Go figure.

I used to own a 94 cherokee a few years back and I'll admit that it had buttloads of torque down low.It had the 4.0 HO motor in it.I woud take down V8 explorers and all the little ricers from light to light in that thing.it was fun to drive before some 19 year old punk had to steal it and total it.

I had a 96 cherokee. with a 4.0, auto, and 3.55 gears, it is pretty fun for an suv. I beat a l69 car til 50 mph. I also used to eat **** after the suspension lift and bigger tires. Whatever you do, make sure its a 1/4 mile, because aerodynamics will own him.

i raced a v8 cherokee from a stop and it was pretty close, but i rolled into it as to not spin the tires and was about a car length ahead when it shifted into 2nd.

I'll give you 1/2 a car head start when I get my bolt-on L05 broken in. 230-240 FWHP @ 4,500 and around 340 ft/lbs @ 2,800 or so is about what this type of combo has been proven to make.

I pulled up to a stop light next to a 96+ Jeep Cherokee. There was some badging on it but I didn't read it. We both floored it at the green, and at 70 he was ahead of me by a solid two car lengths. Second gear shift sucked.
My 91 305 tbi is completely stock, and i have two subs in the trunk.

It's not a v6, its an Inline 6.
There are a few cherokees down in FL running high 13s on spray. I am sure there are faster XJ's, but the 4.0 is a great platform.

Normally I sit back and lurk but had to post in this thread.
While most of the posts were about the inline 6 jeep - Mine is about my 95 v8
I own a 82 z/28 305 camaro - 3.73 gears posi, performer intake, holley carb, no cat , shift kit - runs good
Also own a 95 grand cherokee - 5.2 v8 - complety stock hi miles- runs good - All wheel drive quadratrack
Raced then against each other on the road by my house last fall with my wife
We raced like 6 times each than swapped cars to make sure everything was even- we raced from a dead stop, from a roll- etc.
The jeep was atumatically shifted- the camaro was both maunally shifted and auto shifted (looking for best results).
Under no situation did the poor camaro stand a chance against the jeep - Everytime the results were the same jeep got a jump at the begginning and kept pulling away.
I can't really say the reults surprise me - since although the camaro looks cool and sounds nice for cruising around town it is definatley not going to beat anyone in a race with the 305 that is in it. Although it is no fast - I would choose it for a summer night cruise around town over the jeep. Naturally I choose the jeep for driving in the mud and snow.
I did not race against out ford expedition, but would venture a guess that the camaro would proabably lose to that to.
Against the Inline six reults may have been different, but I cannot speak on that behalf since i never rode in a inline 6 jeep.
Once we raced or camaro against our firehawk - you can probably guess the results.

Im pretty sure those run in the 15.3 range, but im not 100%. If thats the case a few exhaust and intake bolt ons should get you there.

I have to be real careful who I get into it with. I got owned by a v6 VW golf a few weeks ago. But I got into it with a full size chevy truck(2500) extended cab, and took him. My car is hella slow. 16.80s. But im working on it.
