Cadillac CTS vs. 85 Z28
The other day I raced my friend's 02 Caddilac CTS for fun from a roll of about 20 to 60mph just to see how my car faired against his stock 3.6L V6 auto. I pulled about 1 to 2 cars maybe and then we stayed like that before I let off when it shifted into 3rd gear around 60 or so. After he said that my car just had good power down low but seemed even after we got up to speed a bit. So i'm guessing he probably would of reeled me in pretty good by the top of 3rd. So I'm wondering how this matchup might have faired if it was a 1/4 mile race.
From that race I can only tell that I may have the advantage off the start if I can launch it well enough, but then his top end would be able to pull me back in pretty easily, what do you think? Anyone know the specs on an 02 CTS with the 3.6L? All in all not a bad day for the 305, I'll take what I can get.
my few mods are in the sig, his car is factory stock.

Are you sure it's a 3.6L V6? Everything I can find on an 02 CTS references the 3.2L V6.
Here's the specifications:
220 HP @ 6000 RPMs
210 ft./lbs. @ 3400 RPMs
Curb weight: 3500 lbs.
Looking at your sig, I'll make the generalization that your car sounds like a slightly modded L69. That in mind, I think your car should not have too much a problem with his, especially from a dig. Your car and the CTS weight about the same, and you have him beat on torque output for sure. Your car probably makes most of its power under 5500 RPMs as well, so while his car is winding up to make its peak power, your car will already have shifted into the next gear.
As with any street racing situation, the results may vary. I'd give the win to you based on the paper facts, but anything can happen when it comes down to the actual racing.

Yeah it sounds like a good matchup. I think you have a bit more TQ than him, and probably close to the same HP with him peaking higher.
You'd probably beat him in an 1/8th mile race, but you'll be dead even in the 1/4, imo.

Do you mean '03 CTS? There wasn't a '02 CTS. The 3.6L replaced the 220hp 3.2 in '04.
The 3.2 car was tested to run to 60 in 7 seconds and clicked off a 15.5 at 91.5mph. That is not to bad and is in the range of a 3rd gen 305 car.
2002 CTS
The 36l makes 255hp and should beat you with ease.

my buddy ran his for fun at the track and clocked off 15.03, 15.06, and a 15.03. Of course he knows what he is doing, since his race car is a tubbed 69 camaro. Keep in mind those times were later at night with 45 degree air, and a sticky track. Before the cold air that night, he was running a tenth slower.

my dad owns a 04 CTS with the 3.6. I driven it several times and am pretty surprised how quick they are. Good gearing and a 5 speed automatic, In fact one time when my vette was not ready for the saturday cruising/races I took my dads CTS out instead. Wasnt a super fast car but did beat up some N/A Eclipses and hondas that night. If your 305 beat it, you got a decently fast car.

Wait, I'm not sure I understand that vette. You said you werent about to go racing in a 15/14 second car? Isn't 14 seconds acceptable? I mean, kids probably wouldnt own brand new accords for financial reasons, and those older ones (2000 and earlier) cant run any less than 16's stock I don't think.
I know I'm 18 and couldnt possibly have the resources to make my car as fast as I'd like. But it's a hell of a lot better than my moms minivan

No, I said I wasnt about to race FAST cars, as in low 13 second or better cars I usually play with in my vette. 14 seconds in the quarter is not too shabby. What I was getting at was kids in there N/A eclipes and hondas accepted to race my dads stock CTS and got beat. They didnt realize that a fat cadillac is faster then their cars. If his slightly modded camaro with a 305 beat one then I would deem the car decently quick. No fire breather but quicker than alot of other cars on the streets.

yeah, i know what you mean. My friend does the same with his fathers grand marque. Those things will definitely move very unexpectedly.
