The Perfect Launch

So there I was....sitting at the stop sign leading onto the empty three lane highway at about 12:45am. I get down on the brakes and bring the revs up. At about 1500 both tires start to spin a little...so I back off. Once the tires take a set I glance around the blind spots..all clear. I let off the brake as I quickly roll into the gas all the way. The car launches with just a little tire spin as the tach stays put at about 2350. The car takes off and the tires really hook as the tach hits 2600. Never bogged the engine, didn't overspin the tires, and really really really got going. Ahhhh....it was therapeutic. I thought I would post here and see if anyone else has had something like this happen lately....it's just good stuff to read about you know? Makes me really happy to have a car like this when I used to drive a Mazda Protege with 180k on it.

One time I had the perfect trap. I was at the race track, and I was racing. I remember coming across the traps at the end of the track with my foot all the way to the floor on the gas. I slept so well that night.

I practice mine all the time and they hardly ever come out that nice, but it is a good feeling when it does

My only therapy, is getting on a back road, with NOONE in sight, bringing the RPMs up, launching the car great, powershifting every gear at 5700 and shutting her down and going on my merry way!

Autos can be alright, the best way to have real fun is to go out and bang gears!

I wouldnt even go by those, My dads car has an aftermarket tach and when he was on the dyno the tach showed to be 300-400 RPM high. It read 6000 and the car was between 5600-5700. After realizing this, and the fact his car likes to rev, we set the shift light at 6200, and that seems to be the best place to hit it!

I wouldnt trust too many tachs, you need to listen and feel the car!

Me too, when the light comes on, I stab the clutch and hit the next gear... kick it and stick it! Takes skill to perfect it and make a car fast, and is very rewarding when done right!!!

Stick shifts are deffinately fun. I learned on a Geo Prizm. It was a good idea, because if you sucked at shifting, you would loose alot of precious momentum to go on.
