My first street race... what a story.

Alright now this was probably one of the stupidest things I've done. Yes, I'l admit i am an idiot so no need to comment on it. Well, the stupid thing isn't what I did but where a did it.

OK so here's the story...

This happened about 2 years ago, ago a month after buying my T/A. Me and my cousin went to one of the unnoficial friday night parking lot car shows. I'm sure you know what i'm talkin about. I took my car and he took his '81 T/A. That is a sweet looking 2nd gen. We checked out the scene and talked to some people for about an hour or so and then left. On our way home we both pulled up to a stop light and i antangonised my cousin into racing. Well we were on the main drag in town and about 3 blocks from the nearest cop station. (this was not going through my mind at that point though) The light turned green, rubber burned, and we accelerated up to about 50 mph in a 45 zone. I beat him by about 2-3 car lengths. We then slowed back down to 45ish.

Well the crapping things is that across the street sitting behind a building where we couldn't see him and he couldn't see us was a cop. And he pulled us both over about 3/4 a mile from where we raced. We were both given court hearings. Now this is where it all went bad. The cop messed up on the paper work and wrote my cousin up as an adult but he was only 16. I was 18. then somehow the paperwork got lost or something for him and he got off with like 5 hours community service and a 50 dollar fine for lighting the tires up. I on the other hand went to court and pleaded not guilty for the street racing. And tried to get off for burning the tires. But that didn't go and I was written up for street racing and got a 250 dollar bill for fines and court costs. Not to mention my parents weren't too pleased. Oh yeah and it gave me 4 point on my license. I haven't raced against anyone since but next time i do it'll be on a vacant country road.

ja, I rarely street race. And if I do its on a deserted *** road out parallel to a freeway that no one is on, in the dead of night, that you can see headlights coming up for at least a mile.

I punch it in city limits every now and then, but never really race.

I did rape a honda prelude yesterday though... but after extensive checking for the presence of authorities and bystanders.

Come to Southern California.

You'll get fined for WATCHING a street race if it's during one of the large street racing meets that happen regularly around here.

You'll get fined even more if it turns out you were the lookout, letting everybody else know if the cops are coming.

And if you're driving, even if it's NOT at an "organized" street racing meet, even if they DON'T catch the other car, you can kiss your car goodbye. They'll either sell it at auction (no, you aren't allowed to buy back your own car) or they'll crush it. No joke.

The little escaped you and your cousin took part in would have seen both of you losing your cars out here.

Not trying to be all preachy and stuff, but I'm just saying......

Man, same thing happened to me last night. Everyone drags on this same strip of 3 miles or so, and it just so has a convenient turn around lane so people can go through it about 10 times a night (hot time is 8-12). I went through about 6 times. After you turn around and go the three miles, you have to find some place to turn around. It's usually at the movie theater. So, I had actually raced about 3 times that night (no idea why . . . I have a 2.8L Camaro ). I stayed with this 80's S-10 and beat an RS (had a 2.8 as well) and easily lost to an LT1 Camaro. And the last time i was turning around, I turned back onto a side street to turn back onto the main drag and I see a cop behind me in his Crown Vic while I'm waiting for the turn signal. Stupid me, I even forgot to turn on my blinker. So I turn and I figure, I'm going to get out of the line of fire. So I turn into the Schnucks about 700 feet from the light and he turns with me, and I'm just like "****." When he came up to me I was like "uhh, was it the blinker?" and he goes "Why are you street racing?" I was like ahhhh ****! When you can't even see the cops they're there somehow. I suppose I'm just blind, as you can hear cars in high revs from a 1/2 mile away, not to mention peeling tires. They had seen me race all three times. The guy was nice enough to let me off with a warning. I'm never street racing again. ****, I'm afraid to even punch it on that street ever again. Screw street racing. Save it for the country roads, I suppose. I'm scared ****less of cops now.

And yes I said no lights. no tail lights, headlights or anything.that was a fun court day.. although i got off with no charges due to the police officer's acttions it wasted out a full day.

had a cop do that to me on US 30, i was at a light next to my girlfriend, so just for fun i reved it and inched forward a few times. i didnt see the cop directly behind me until it was to late. i wasnt even going to race! she drives a tempo, no point. so i take of trying not to be suspicous, but not speed. and people just start passing me doing like 70, cop stays right on me, so i swich lanes, low and behold he changes lanes to! so i jetted into the nerest gas station before i did aby thing wrong.

I pulled up next to a stang at a red light once, and noticed his window was down. I threw him a rev, and he reciprocated.
The light turned green and I roll out like regular, and he peeled out....
except he apparenlty didn't see the police directly behind him , the one that I noticed before I even wound up my engine.
I laughed all the way home, then the next day I got a speeding ticket for driving 47 in a 45 zone.

Man that pisses me off that you can get a ticket for 47 in a 45. Out here there is usually people riding your *** even if you're going THE SPEED LIMIT. I'm talking I'm in the right lane. I'm trying not to **** up my insurance right now so I've been driving the speed limit and I've quit street racing. It's gotten pretty stupid and it sorta just makes you look like a jackass when you're driving around on the same strip for 3 1/2 hours.

i ticket with such a minor difference in speed can ussually be thrown out if you plead not guilty, because there are so many different factors that could cause you to be 2mph over the speed limit it is not even funny. Just a cop tring to get an easy ticket because most people just pay the fines rather than show up to court and dispute it. Alot of tickets are avoidable that way. most times because the cop will not even show up to the hearing lol.

ticket for 47 in a 45? Racing tickets for hitting 50? Man you guys must live in red states. Here in liberal Washington people race all the time. Hell sometimes the cops park in out of the way locations on friday and saturday nights to AVOID seeing the roving packs of street racers, all the headaches we cause them, having to call other units away from what they're doing and such, i mean even they know, they should be fighting CRIME.

If you are doing donuts in front of a cop, even if it is spinning it around once. you need to think about what you do in front of a cop before you do it. because they love to jsut sit there and watch you do something stupid and than laugh at you while handing you a ticket.

I fully agree that racing should be kept to the track. I was given a loitering ticket for watching a streetrace, and the cops took me to jail, for 12 hours, and didnt even tell me why I was being put in jail... I didnt even have my car there. So Ive decided to build a 2nd gen into a drag car.

But then I learn that they are shutting down the old Southeastern Dragway, Dallas Dragstrip, this August. They are selling it to build houses on. This is bull****. People buy houses near a dragstrip and then complain about the noise every friday and sat night. No SH*T sherlock... it's gonna be loud. This is just pushing more and more kids to the streets. Im in a very populated suburb of atlanta and tons of kids have cars out here that they want to run, and the closest track is a good 2 hours away and a good 30-40 dollars worth of gas round trip. Not to mention the 20 bucks to get in. $60 a week just to get to the strip is not feasible for kids that are highschool, or even college age.

There need to be gov't owned and operated dragstrips that dont get shut down... and maybe even stay open more often. Thats one way to fix the problem. The state and fed govt have protected parks, and with as popular as autos are in out current culture, the government needs to adapt to this and accomodate its citizens.

That sucks, around here parking lots count as private property and the cops will just ask you to move on. They also dont get involved with accidents in parking lots.

Question... why do people always have to come on peoples threads and state that the person whom was racing is a stupid and to keep it on the track? Do you guys have nothing better to do? If you have nothing to say reguarding his race like nice kill or whatever then why even say anything?

Sorry, anyways good kill man, sounds like it was a good race, to bad about the ticket though

Some of the cops in my area seem to be cracking down on anything resembling street racing or exibition of speed. I think part of it has to do with all of the young import owners around that are always racing on the two lane roads right through town. Sometimes I will accelerate fast at a light but I hardly ever go full throttle. However, I got pulled over the other day just because I hit the throttle getting onto the interstate and the car fish tailed alittle. I know that I spun a little so I immediately let out of the gas and I was only going 45 (speed limit 55). I spun the tires going 30 which was totally unexpected but the roads around here do have alot of sand on them. I think that people that are racing on residential streets and going well beyond the posted speed limit or that are blatantly burning out deserve a ticket, but some of the things are getting rediculous.

Well look on the bright side - you got to **** off some cops and waste quite a bit of public authorities' time

Because we like to encourage people to take their cars to a track. Street racing is illegal and kills people.

I was racing a Chevy Impala with my 89 Celica gts
It was 2am and no other cars around.
I didnt go past 85 though, anyway he stayed on me
and then pulled me over when I exited the parkway
It was an undercover cop gave me a break though
I was coming home from work.

Tonight it was a Lexus I wasnt sure what model it was
but it looked like a new coupe.
He tried to overtake me on the same parkway
I had my 86 camaro z28 ,so I punched it but he was close
to taking me so I went to wot and stayed out in front.
When I looked at my rear view mirror to see his headlights
all I saw was a cloud of smoke from my tailpipes I literally was smoking em...
I might be running rich on the secondaries I guess.
I get challenged alot because of the big white racing stripes.

One time before I owned my camaro I was driving my sisters new cavalier, I was messing with a newer style vette (no, not the NEW ones) and the guy was playing back, my sisters cavalier is actually surprisingly peppy but in no way compaired to the vette. We both ended up going +70 on a 35mph road >.<

one time me and my friend were playing cat and mouse (stupid idea, dont do it) and I had my 93 cougar at the time, I was flying through a sub division at like 3am going around 70'ish, the roads were snowy and then came a sudden turn.... I fish tailed like a **** and drifted around the corner *accidently* I was so scared of dying it was disgusting, I ended up going down some side street, got out of my car, and freaked the **** out. I will never do anything THAT stupid again. Still gives me the ****** thinking about it.

Street racing is cool, as long as you arent stupid about it. Also, its nice to invest 250 dollars into a nice radar detector or throw away 250 dollars+ into a ticket, remember that, also those radar jammers seem pretty promising too, havent gotten one yet.

Where I come from we call cops like them "Pigs In a Blanket"...they are some sneaky bastards I tell ya what. I saw a thing on the news the other day where...the municipalities set up a sting to get people that speed by having a cop dress up like a homeless guy, and hold a sign and a radar gun...they then radio a hidden cop to tell them who's speeding and how fast they are driving. I believe that is BS, and not fair.
Due to stuff like this I don't hardly even get on my car anymore in public...people just see me go by in my car and call the cops cuz its so loud. To the guy that started this thread...your situation sucks man, but sometimes thats what it takes to keep you from racing on the streets then thats whats gotta happen in the police eyes. I have seen so many street races, and many were safe and nothing happened...but i have seen my fair share of accidents, and stupid people that have no regards for their lives or others...and thats what we all need to realize. So whatever you choose to do on the streets, please just be careful guys...and at least take the precautions you can to stay safe.
