stang storie

it was late one sat nite, was just sitting at the local hang out ,when this all black mustang pulls in ,and pulls up beside my 90 trans am,i look over at the 2 guys in the car ,the guys look back and say, nice bird, then they ack me where all the races go down.i say about a mile from here, why do ya ask?they say because all firebirds are junk, and start talking **** about gm,and i say ,well how about we just see how much trash you talk when i show you the *** end?so they say ok,lets get it on,so we go to the place we all race.now i didnt even look at the tires ,and i always look ,because i was so pissed off.we line up ,and the passanger says GO!!!!!!,i hit the gas, spin side ways till i hit second, mustang pulls me hard,by 2 cars, then once in second,i get traction,i pull back 1 car length, the stang hits 3rd,and shoots flames out ,i was like WOW,i hit 3rd,and pull back on him by 1,so now im 1 ahead.we run all the way to the quarter mark, then i let out,by this time im 3 cars ahead,i had shifted to overdrive.the mustang hit the gas again,so i was ,bull crap,no you dont, and i pulled him again, then he finialy lets off.we go back to where we was sitting to talk it over.the mustang was a 95 model 351/5speed 373 gear, with cam and head work.little did he know i was running a heavly moded 350 tuneport,411 gear, with frame conectors, roll cage, and adajustable touqre arm.he did have drag tires,i had street tires,i asked if he wanted me to go get my drag tires,he said,NO WAY MAN.,so one more for GM,i say,i told him to look at the car better next time ,dont assume ALL trans ams are junk, some will KILL YA !!!!!!!!

Nice! But why did you shift into overdrive? No need if it is just a 1/4 mile

He said he shifted to overdrive after the initial quarter was over. He has a lot of detail, but just trying to read that gave me a head ache.

Sorry Im gonna need more info here...

The kid had a 351 in a 95 GT with heads/cam/ and I assume an intake and you ran with him. Any 351 combo should be an easy 12 second combo! Unless he was some hack who didnt know what he was doing, but it seems most guys who put 351s in arent just your average kid! I would say if this all holds true, you got lucky, as a 351 is a big deal in a Mustang!

They weigh more than fox bodies but not any more than a thirdgen... So by that it weighs about the same as his car!

And I read the TPI part as well, and well a 351 with head work (I assume there is a decent set of heads on there) a cam, and then there has to be a decent intake as a stocker wouldnt bolt up, would put down well into the mid to high 300s as far as hp goes (flywheel) and should propel the SN-95 into the 12s easily!

The story might be true as there isnt really enough info to judge, but from what I have seen, most 351s in any Mustangs run great times!

He may have been running too rich, no biggie, my Rx7 shot flames out every time I shifted when racing.

did i forget to mention, my 90 trans am is a tuneport, with hood, fenders, decklid, doors from VFN FIBERGLASS,it is a racing company that makes trans am ,camaro parts, they look stock ,but weigh less.the doors weigh 10 pounds each, the decklid is 10 pound, hood is 15 pounds, there is no bumper support behind the front end, complete front end weighs 25 pounds with fenders,so you can say it went on a SLIM FAST DIET,lol.it looks just like a 85 to 90 trans am,but when you dont pay close attention to it ,it is a race car on the street.i have invested over 18,000 dollers in this car in 7 years.so when you say BULL SH..T,look real close if you see this car,it has more suspesion work than most drag cars do,because it dont take gobs of horsepower to get in the 11s,it takes lots of know how.you have 2 choices in car building, run with ,or run better than your chalanger,i chose to run better.i didnt say his stang was SLOW,i said i had to work for that kill, didnt i?the reason he shot flames, was he over reved the 351,i have a 2 step ,so i will never have that happen.and yes,in my sig ,that is my 89 GTA,with 355,5 speed.and in another post ,i was asking about a cam for another tuneport im building for my 87 firebird.i have been racing for over 25 years on the street/strip,so i think ive learned how to set up a fbody !!!!

here is the web site http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/site.htm
complete front end is about 800 dollers, bumper cover, fenders, hood is 400 ,they do sell complete bodies, then you add your frame, motor, trans ,so on,they have a dash that weighs 8 pounds.they will help ya pick the right parts ,real cool bunch .my car with all parts weighs in at 2800 pounds, give or take a pound, roll cage made it heavy,it is the thicker stock ,i wanted that because i was hit it the quarter once, and it almost got totled.car is stored for winter,up on stands, tires off ,i run M/T street slicks ,on 5 star weld wheels, very light.the night in the storie ,i was running street tires ,245/50/16 off my GTA.

how about a camaro body,it weighs 115 pounds, and you can make it work on the 82 to 92 camaro,it just takes a good body man,and lots of body know how,im sure you guys know a good body man.think of it ,a camaro, firebird ,looking stock ,weighing less than stock,so now is going faster out of the question?

i know a lot more tricks,interested??????

Se and now with that info it makes the kill easier to believe, but without that info, its hard to think about a tuned port Fbody running with and beating a 351 swapped Mustang!

i used to work at a garage ,so a inspection sticker is no problem.if you use these parts, now im talking where i live, you have to be cool about what ya do,dont want the law after ya,ya know ,just go out and dont be burning tires for blocks, and so on.
they are legal in my state, but may not be in others.im not sure about that .i know ,if ya spend any time building your camaro, firebird, mustang ,what ever you ALL have, you want to WIN,when you are chalanged by others, its human nature.plus winning makes ya feel good ,dont it?thats why the PEFORMANCE market is so big these days, just for people like all of us.
and thanks guys, next time i will be more clear, wasnt starting trouble,i dont know how to do that.plus thanks to such a great site,we need to keep the FBODY alive, even though they quit making it ,i almost told GM ,wher they could put it !!!!!only makes the value of ALL fbody worth more!!!!!!

i am gonna look that up. i thought fiberglass parts in PA was illegal but who would know? anyway, the camaro is scheduled for reproduction in 2007-2008. i found a site that lists GM's production numbers and projects for upcoming years and they mention the camaro will be coming back.

i found a stang with a 351 in it and it says it has 700hp. the car is 11g's i think i might get it. but then i also found a 5.0 302 with vortec supercharger and is dynoed at 465hp at the wheels that car is 15g's but damn too much. found a stang for 3g's just plain 5.0 with headers and 40k on motor and trans and 1k on the clutch. i think ill get that and add a vortec superchager myself.

nice kill btw.

nice kill btw.
Well a 5.0 with an SC isnt gonna give you 465 rwhp. I would say just slapping an SC on a stock 5.0 you looking at 340-350 rwhp at about 9-10 psi. Now dont egt me wrong, I have seen 11.6s out of a stock motored SCed car, but your going to need heads/cam/intake to touch 400+ rwhp!

Tim Stockwell made just over 400rwhp with a dead stock motor and SC but it was like 16+ lbs of boost and w/a injection. For 465 you would have to have h/c/i and around 9 lbs of boost roughly I'd guess..all depends on the combo.

Yeah I read about that car too, sure its possible but it takes a lot of skill to do and most average guys wont touch that kind of power!

Oh yea, thats a RARE thing...thats why I was saying that. Not a likely thing. About as likely as a 100% stock LS1 running a 12.8.

I wish I had the time and $$ to mess with my car the way it is and get it dyno tuned. I know with a tune and some larger injectors I'd pick up an easy 2-3 mph.
