They were just heavier LG4's in a different skin. They were slow.

Actually the L69 was the standard for all the Super Sports. The later cars also came with 3.73 gears. Still slow as a snail though. The best my 86 SS ran was high 15's with Edelbrock Headers and 120,000+miles.

My cousin has a 87 Monte SS with 66,000 original miles..only mods are a gutted cat and a Flowmaster catback. Nice car.

One of my friends ran a 15.7@89 with his old SS. He had no mufflers and maybe a filter. The 3.73's make them quick off the line but they kinda fall off after that.

Most do end up with a 350 amd alot were 6cyl cars to start out. My uncle had a 6cyl 82 Monte he made into a SS witha cowl induction hood. But his had a 402 big block with a 4spd!

Everyone thinks of Monte SS's just like Thirdgens they are just 305 turds. Most SS's get the 350 treatment im one of them 355 TH350 3.73's and a 150 hit of juice... LSWhat?

I went to high school with this kid who had an '87 Monte SS. He had the L69 with just exhaust but it was a nice clean car. He worked at a speed shop and claimed that by "rigging" his secondaries to open with the primaries he made 100 more hp

Riiighttt. Anyway I beat him from a 40 mph roll to 80 mph the one time we raced. I think I had only like 2 cars on him though....

Not to hijack the thread, but is there a Monte SS message/board/forum? I always thought those cars were pretty sweet and would make a nice mild driver...
