You got it man You take the torque the engine is making at your observed HP level. This also helps calculate how much power your car really makes. Car companys won't underate torque (in most cases) but will HP. So throw out their rating and calculate the new one. That is why people get so excited about LT1's and LS1's. It is amazing how underrated those motors really are and the power curves they produce.

In defense of stu (I will dodge bullits for this) he claims he has no torque and only hp until he hits boost. Really, he does have a lot. It just arrives right when his HP does

EDIT: This why you will never see peak torque after peak HP.

Some can make more torque that compariable motors while producing less horsepower. equation just gives you idea. but using it for 89 L98 specs, thats 330torque at 3200rpms. 230hp at 4400rpms. that equation gives 201hp. so its not entirely accurate.

and the Lt1 responds greatly to cam swap cuz the intake is designed to make power up to 6000rpms or higher. stock cam is barely any bigger than L98 cams which peak around 4500rpms-5000rpms. so put in a hot cam or bigger in a LT1 or Lt4 and you got mad power increase.
actually that equation is right
at 3200 rpms the motor is only putting out 201hp
horsepower generally goes higher as rpms rise.
also if you look at the equation and flip it around you can figure torque

tq=(hp*5252)/rpms

so at 4400rpms when the motor is putting out 230hp you have 274lbs/ft of torque

again horsepower is nothing more then a number derived from math. it has it's uses but when taken to a dyno the dyno only calculated torque and then uses mat to figure out horsepower based on that

if you are curious go to howstuffworks.com and look up horsepower

as far as the lt1 and why it makes more horsepower and just a tad less torque is because the lt1 has a much broader torque curve and makes torque higher up in the rpm range ulike the l98 which falls flat on it's face at high rpms thereby giving a higher

like if you have a car that has a perfect flat torque curve from 1000rpms-10000rpms (theory I know cause it can't happen) the torque will stay the same but horsepower will rise in proportion to rpms for no other reason then that is how the math works

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this equation, everyone seems to know that math is involved, but not why. Let me see if I can break it down for those who don't quite grasp the idea here.

Torque = work.
Horsepower = how fast you can do the work.

It's the difference between being able to lift a weight at all, and being able to lift that same weight in a certain amount of time. In fact, the actual quantity of what one horsepower is, is moving 550 lbs, 1 foot, in 1 second.

So, you can move 550 lbs 1 foot and have it take all day long. As long as you move the same amount of weight the same distance, you will have achieved the same amount of work; which is torque. But you'd have to move that weight 1 foot in 1 second to have achieved 1 horsepower.

Torque = work
Horsepower = work x time.

5.0's are fugly! LOL just kidding
No, they are ugly compared to a thirdgen...they are as attractive as a honda civic..not to mention the interior room in them. i'd take my beaughtifully designed ,bigger thirdgen over a mustang, even though it is heavier- any and every day of the week!:hail:

I'll take my poorly designed, small interiored, smaller car over your LO3 (which I might add is slower than my well designed much larger Jeep)... See opinions are just that and are not valid when fighting facts!

As stated i was responding to the post saying 5.0s are ugly which they are,and nowhere di i mention my thirdgen having the edge performance wise.

Good, then you know that opinions mean nothing, its the solid facts we can use as comparisons...

but can you fit a 11 inch wide rim on the back with 315 series tires?

thirdgens can and with that and nice cowl hood, the look is evil!! LOL

No need, my car hooks on 245s (as shown by the 12.9 timeslips on street radials, with bolt ons )

With the right offset and no quad shocks I have seen 315s on Mustangs, on 10.5 rims. I had 275s on mine which looked good, but looks are subjective, power isnt!

Hmm, I have tried that with the skinnies and no sway bar. Lets say, it isnt pretty! (No I have NEVER tried this). I am the first to say Mustangs are a joke when it comes to handeling until you do a lot of suspension mods!
