89 Turbo 5.0 Stang vs. my 90 IROC-Z
My friend and I just completed his 89 Turbo 5.0 Mustang. It has a HP Performance ( Roswell, NM) Turbo kit on it with upgraded turbo (T67) and intercooler. It has the stock cam with roller rockers and Trickflow Track Heat Heads. He has a Tremec 3550 with a TKO mainshaft, Spec 3 clutch and stock rear end. We took it out for a rip last night and it was running decent. The boost contoller was all the way down and it still pushed ~9 pounds of boost. We decided to race it against my car from a roll.
First race was from a 35-40 roll at the top of first gear. We hit it and both spun hard (both on street tires). I started to pull him decently then at about 100 he flew by me hard!
I decide to turn on the bottle (75 shot). We race again and this time I get a jump on him and when his turbo spooled he caught back up to me and we were dead on even until about 130 then we shut down.
I never thought I could have ran with his car. We built it to go high 9's/10's on slicks. His car is convertable and heavy, 3550. My car has gone 11.95 @ 120.21 on slicks+nitrous.
We dynoed his car and he was running 453.7 RWHP SAE that night. Then we discovered some problems with his TPS sensor and some grounds and alternator. Once we fixed them his car pulled 553 at the wheels on 15 pounds of boost! and over 630 torque! His car is still pig rich (below 10:1 A/F) and has prolly 75 more HP in it.
I think I hung with him just because his tires were spinning in every gear and all the time almost. Now that it is tuned better there is no way I can run with him.My car feels like a snail now. His car is VERY scary when that boost hits. Fish-tailing into 2nd,3rd, AND 4th is not fun at 100 mph. Just a warning that there are 5.0's in New Mexico/Texas that will run 10's, trap 130+ and sound and look completly stock, until the waste gate opens.

Damn that Stang sounds freakin sweet. Do you have pics of his setup. I am sure others would like to see it too.
