89 Lincoln LSC

Hey guys, i got a buddy of mine walks around screaming he eats LS1 Maros/birds for breakfast. of course i know its so now he wants to run with me. he has a 1989 Lincoln LSC with headers, full catback and a 5.0 H.O. engine and acouple of other mods. i didnt even know these cars could be modded. anyhow, i have a 5.0 tpi auto with a few "free mods", nothing big from stock. could i win? i know i have a far superior weight advantage, but he as the advantage of not being stock.
when i had my 96 3.4 firebird, i would kill me top end wise, i never had an official race or anything, we just tested each others acceleration. but i know this 5.0 maro is faster, and weve already "play drag"(what he decides to call it because of the outcome), where he stopped behind a shopping mall, and took off after 3 honks of the horn. i beat him terribly by at least 3 car lengths, but it looked like he has better top end. we raced about a 1/4 mile. he said that his breaks have been bad and been holding onto the wheel, and his suspension was bad, making his tires rub against the fender. but its fixed and he is challenging again to run...can he kill me or can i hold my own? both cars are auto.

Only one way to find out...
Do you plan on shifting manually? (I hope)
So, are you going to be running down a long stretch of road, or like a 1/4?
If you're unsure and want just a little more power, before you race, bump the timing up a few degrees. 2-4 adavanced should give you a little more @$$. Just don't go too high on the timing.

It depends on what mods he has. His car should weigh about 3700-3800 lbs, but has the same power potential as the 5.0 Mustang. If he has exhaust, gears, and some bolt ons he could very well have a mid to low 14 second car. Its hard to say but judging by the fact you have played with him and beat him by 3 cars in about 1/4 mile, I think youll win!

Or he could have been playin with you. Just don't race for pink-slips
Mustang, you know of any other quick mods, or tricks he can do to help his race?

Any quick mods for anyone is to take weight off. A lot ofpeople dont like to do it because it isnt how their cars drive around on the street, but if you want to win, its free, easy and could be the difference between a win and a loss!

This should be a close race. I saw one of those cars knock down a 16.1 one bone stock besides a cut-out. So your friend should be running in the high 15's. I would say that he would beat you but since you guys have already gone at it, and you won you should beat him, unless he was just messing with you. All I know is those things are quick for a late 80's luxury car and the auto 305 tpi's werent very fast so its pretty much a toss up. Good Luck.

It'll take quite a few more mods to get these cars to run the times 25thmustang is claiming.

Its basically an automatic equipped 5.0 Mustang that weighs about 4000lbs without driver. That's roughly 700-800 lbs more than your average Mustang. And nearly anything you can do to the Stang you can do to these cars, they are built on the same platform.

Low to mid 14s would be expected with those mods on an auto Stang. Definately not the barge of the LSC LOL!

well we are suppose to run on monday. ive seen him take down a couple of imports, like the rest of us can, but i jus dont see his car as an all out performance car, more of like an old lady ride, but then he toasted my firebird. i just dropped in some kn air filters for now. i know its not much, but its not too expensive either. maybe itll help me out a little too.

They have had shootouts with these cars and even though they are pigs they respond very well to mods. Bolt on guys have gone 13s and such, even at 3700-3800 lbs. They dont have as large an aftermarket as the Mustangs but you can easily get parts that will work. Never underestimate a component!

Essentially an LSC is an automatic mustang with more weight - although a T-bird is a lot lighter and sneakier. I have seen all sorts of moded ones - from 5 speed conversions to 351 lightning motors to supercharged ones. The only thing that sucks about them is the extra 400-600lbs. They do have better aerodynamics than a Mustang though.

Please define "bolt-on" It seems 5.0 Ford guys like to use the terms bolt-on and stock VERY loosely I'd be shocked to see an intake, exhaust, pullied and geared Mark go 13s. It should require internal engine work or a good converter to hit 13s.

I had a subscription to MM&FF a couple of years ago. I believe it was a 00 or 01 issue that they had the LuxoBarge shootout. Very disappointing times...

Similar to my motor, Cobra intake and TB, pulleys, exhaust, gears... Mine went 13.0 with stock suspension, stock mass air, and bad rings and lifters, A 5.0 running good, with those mods, MAF, some suspension and obvousely a converter and shift kit should go mid 13s!
