My 87 GTA vs 93 Z28

I am thinking about racing this kid that goes to my school who drives a 93 Z28. It has a BBK throttle body, headers, an punched out cat and borla exhaust. Oh yeah, its automatic too. I now own an 87 GTA with the following mods. SLP cold air intake, SLP airfoil, SLP camshaft (not sure on the specs.), SLP headers, SLP intake runners, SLP catalytic converter, SLP cat-back, SLP chip and a shift kit. Any idea who will win this? any input is much appreciated.

if your GTA ran 13.4 with all those SLP mods, I say you would win. The LT1 is sweet motor with good high rpm power. you should get him on the low end. With his mods he should be in the mid to high thirteens depending on traction, and his gears. With an auto, he probly has 3.23s or 3.42s . I heard 4th gens are heavier too so I say go ahead and dust a 4th gen. It should be a real close race.

Any of those mods added after your car ran a 13.4?? It should be a really good race if you both launch well as he should be running low/mid 13s are well if it's running right...

I'm not calling BS but I have never seen anyone get into the low mid 13's with just bolt ons. Typically you need quite a bit of head work to go with that Cam to reach those #s.

I belive the 13.4 if the cam and tuning is done correctly. His trap speed was probably pretty low though. Anywhoo, you should beat the 93. With his mods and weight dissadvantage he could be anywhere from 13.5 to 14.3.

If your car really does run 13.4 (not calling bs, it just sounds a little quick for so little mods ) then you sould take him, no problem.

low 13's with just bolt ons is defenitly possible with an L98. My friends older brothers car runs 13.5s all day all he has is an L98 with Headers and 3 inch exhaust, edelbrocke intake base and runners, ported plenium, gutted air box, and 3.42 gears and posi. Stock heads and cam. With that being said his car could be pretty close to you, my girlfriend goes to school with a guy that has a 96 trans am that just has longtube headers, duel high flow cats, borl catback, and 3.42 gears oh and also ram air but he added that it wasnt a ws6 and he ran a 13.3( i saw the slip). So it could be close.

Yeah, it's possible. I'm just a set of lightweight wheels and stickies away from low 13's. Cooler weather helps a lot with a TPI also.

I personally did not run a 13.4 with the car, but the person I bought it from said he did. I think it is possible, however not very likely to duplicate it. The car is under the knife right now, it has a little stumble, no big deal. Once I get that all sorted out, I will head to the strip and see what this car is actually capable of doing. Oh, and curt, I am willing to bet I would smoke your 1990 IROC.
