350 3rd gen vs 455 2nd gen

i have a 80 TA with a 455 in it. its got crappy 6X heads, a summit 2802 cam with 224/234 duration at .050 and .465/.488 lift, full length headers, stock intake, th350 trans and a little under 9:1 compression. it runs pretty good, i just put 3.42 gears in and when you hit the gas under 30mph it will get sideways pretty quick(also has a posi rear). i'd say its at least a little faster than a 4th get with an LT1, a LOT faster off the line.

i also have an 84 Z28 with a 283 in it. i've been thinking about building a 350 for it. it would have 041 heads, a crane 278-2 cam, headers, performer intake, and about 9.5:1 compression.

its got a th2004r trans and 3.23 gears(i'd probably put in some 3.73s at least)

how do you think they would compare? i don't want anything any slower than my '80 and thats not very slow. its just that my 84 is in better shape and i like it a little better, if it would be about as fast as the '80 that would be great.

why does your thirdgen have a 283 in it? and about the 455 vs. 350 the 455 would spank it, the second gens have more weight but the 455 should more than make up for that with the mods you have.

Why your '84 has a 283 is . But in any case, if you want to beat that 455, your gonna need more motor than what you currently have planned. I think you could beat it though, you really aren't all that radical with the 455.

The 455 is gonna spank the 283 car.

the reason i ask is that my brother had a 97 z28 6 spd and the 455 TA isn't quite as fast(off the line it has a TON more torque though, just can't hook it up good). on here people say that with what i have planned with the 350 it should beat a 4th gen. the 80 TA is close to 400-500 lbs heavier than the 84 and the 350 will have MUCH better heads. if you've seen the ports on the 041s vs the 6X's they are like night and day. the 041 ports are huge compared to the 6X ports. they're also much better shapped. combine the better heads, intake, more compression, and a lighter car and i think the 84 with the 350 would be just as fast if not faster than the 80 with the 455.

i'm also probably going to put 4.10 gears in the 84 which i wouldn't dare put behind a street driven 455 without OD.

thanks for your opinions, thats mine....hopefully we'll find out for sure soon.

BTW, there's a long story about why it has a 283 right now. it started when we found it at a yard sale, the guy didn't know what it was. we called a place and told them the # and they said it was a 350 so we got it. later i checked the #s and found out it was a 283. i was 15 at the time and my dad fell in love with it so thats what went in. thats about as short as i can make it.

I'd use better heads on the 350, but I've still got my money on the 350, it can make 400 HP easy with good heads and its overall MUCH lighter. Pontiac 455s are alright, but the Buick 455 was the fast one and yes they ARE different. The Buick has an ENORMOUS bore (4.310") vs. the pontiacs smaller (4.155") and they a strong motors that pull past 6K
