Would a newer Jetta with a 1.8 4 banger beat my car. Also a stock 96 Eclipse?? These kids at my school think so and want to put money on it. Im going to find out more inof soon. They dont have any type of charger or juice. I have a 89 Firebird Formula 350. Just the cheap do your self mods.

I'm pretty sure you will beat them bad, unless the Jetta have a VR6 motor, even with that I think you got it... Just make sure you have a great lauche without spining too much, our cars are best on the lauch, not in top speed so race from a stop.

my jetta VR6 ran low 15s... if you're 14s or better, you're set.

the jetta 4cyl is a dog.... the TURBO 4cyl is decient... athough i beat a supposedly modded one with my DEAD STOCK down to the factory air cleaner VR6.

i dont know the eclipses speed...


i know you SHOULD take the jetta off the line because you're RWD.... even a L03 should walk for the first 5ft or so.... so if you are faster, then you should whomp them... if you're only margenally faster in the 1/4, you're going to have problems street racing it because to get the same times, they have a top end charge, and you mainly get your speed from a launch.... the farther the race is, the less and less the launch matters.

Unless you leave the E-brake up I think you'll be ok.

If the eclipse is a gs-x, then you're probably toast, but as far as the jetta goes, then unless it's a vr6, you are probably alirght. Let's hope that the eclipse is a gs auto, so you can absolutely hand both their asses to them, cuz those gs's are so slow that my 89 sunbird I used to have in a stick would kill one off the line. Anyways keep us updated on what happens.

Bitch slap both those guys for being stupid. The only way it will be close is if the eclipse is turbo even then if its stock youll beat him. And the jetta shouldnt stand a chance unless you cant drive.

I found out that the jetta has a factory turbo. This kid is really stuck up and im pretty sure I could take them both. The eclipse is the faster one but has nothing done to it. Im the only one in the whole school that has a american car. There are a lot of trucks here. The jetta might want to race for money do you thinkm I should do it. I just found out also that it’s a passat thoses are slower right?

lil heavier, but not much. lil more power too... as long as he hasnt modded it to crank up the boost, and your car is running fine, you should beat him.

just keep in mind people... its not what his car is capable of... its what it does as it sits now...


so if your motor isnt upto snuff, dont expect to beat a low 15sec car....

TPI-Formula350-

any eclipse is lucky to be breaking into the 15's (stock) and the Jetta is probably even slower. Even a VR6 only runs mid 15's(stock). 89 Formula 350 runs 14.90's(stock). You should have no problem passing these sleds like there wheels fell off......

Stock the 2G turbo eclipses were low-mid 15 second cars. The n/a ones were 16 second or worse.

Dude, this will be a easy race for you. I drive a rs with a 305 and i can kill eclipses. I have test drove a 1992 Z28 with a 350 TPI and i was very impressed with it, it was an amazing machine. tell him youll un hook two of your plug wires to even it up

I've seen a talon run a 15 flat with nothing more than a boost controller, although he did fry his pistons on the 3rd run that night, but that's another story. I've also seen a NA one run a 17.4 that same night. My GF has a 98 GS and i destroy her by bus lengths with my stock L03.

Haha thanks guys for your input. My car is runner great i just had a tune up. These guys are so cocky they think they have the fastest cars in school. I cant wait to beat them as soon as this snow clears. If its wet at all i'll lose alot of traction. Im getting new cooper corbra tires really soon has anyone used them and how are they. So when i race i will let your know who wins.

Finaly some good weather and I ended up beating them both. Nothing special. They did better then i thought they would. The Eclipse did better then the jetta.

Alright these races werent even close. I really thought it would be closer. Both of them were out looking for some races b/c they are friends. We went from a 20 or so mph roll. I didnt lose much traction at all. We ran a bunch of times we just kept changing off i would race one they would race eachother it was really fun. Been a while since I had the bird out of the garage. They Jetta's driver was pretty damn bad he was grinding gears and it was awful. The next day at school they told everyone that my car was pretty quick so now everyone wants to race me. Its weird I have SUV's reving at me and vans and everyone else. We didnt race for any stakes but i would sure love to have a big VW in my room. The passat has factory turbo its a 1.8l 4 banger. Thats all i know for that. The eclipse didnt have turbo. I dont think it did at least didnt hear any blow off valves or anything.

My sis has a '96 Eclipse GS. I constantly make fun of it for being slow. Even when we test drove it 4 years ago when she bought it the salesguy was saying "it's pretty peppy" to which i responded "No it's not, it's the slowest car i have ever driven"
