Twin Turbo Stealth= HOLYCRAP!!!

rollin over to the g-friends apartment, i pass this minivan doin 35 on the double yellow, and this car pulls out from the side of the road, im thinkin dammit, cop. no blue lights, so its like, "SWEET, no ticket" then i get to this light, turn left on a 4 lane. outta no where, lights comin up hard, i gas it, just for the hell of it, WHOOOSH!!! stealth, lookin totally stock, cept for the fartcan. Guy flat out blows me away. cant catch up to him. finally stop at a light. i say, "man that is some wicked shiat! what you runnin?" guy says" twin turbo v-6, its got a few mods."

so i say, " yeah man, i believe, sweet ride!!" he tells me to be careful, i tell him to do the same. call up the GF, i always tell her about badass rides. Shes like, oh yeah thats jon he comes into autozone all the time(she works there, i get 20% off everything, OH YEAH!!) hes pushin about 365 horses.

Just one more reason to get me a badazz 383.

Moral of the story. Stealths are fast. Very Very fast.

maybe... i guess it depends on what youre used to. got a 305 like the guy who started this post? then hell yeah, they are fast.

but if youre used to some of the cars that i drive, theyre not fast

They are good for mid to high 13's with k&n filters. Also depends on what year it was. My bro's '91 Stealth TT would pull 13.5's. The newer ones, I believe 94' and newer had 20 more HP and something like 10 more ft lbs of tq.

They would definitely smoke a stock TPI vette or f-body

also, they newer you get, the heavier these cars got. so the slight increase in power over the years was negated

my 100% bone stock 89' TPI Vette went 13.9s very consistantly. your bros went 13.5s with K&Ns... what did it do stock? either way, if you only beat someone by .4 in the quarter, youre not smoking him. thats about 2 car lenghts

and BTW... my cars arent stock

If you're curious to see what kinda mods will make them run check out www.dynamicracing.com

The owner, Matt Monett, is a friend of mine although I haven't talked to him in years. Before he got into Stealths/3000GTs he used to drive a mildly modded LT1 Corvette that I spanked regularly.

Now he's building some of the fastest Stealths/3000GTs in the country. Keep in mind the times posted on his website are at a fairly high altitude too...I'm pretty impressed with what he's done.

Car: too many ...
They can make some power, and the AWD helps them launch good, but they are even heavier than our cars. They weigh in at 3600+ pounds from the factory. I'm sure the weight can be dropped with enough time and money, but something to think about. Even so, with the right mods they can be damn fast. Guy named Gus in my club has a highly modded Stealth, he put down 525 FWHP (rear shaft disconnected, we have no AWD dyno's in Hawaii) @ 19psi @ 7000rpm. And he says he's still having problems since it wont hold high boost (wastegate leak), he should be pushing over 25psi!! Woah! Here's a pic of his engine, but sorry no dyno sheet yet.

You know what, they have a store here in town open 24 hours a day. Where else ya gonna get brake pads, hose clamps, the right size batt. cable, plenty of fuel line, an alternator, etc....... at 1:00 in the morning.

And I also have to admit I use their Ultra spark wires. The damn thing are 8mm and have a life time warranty. I can't help myself. Hell they sell MSD and Accel high voltage coils right on the shelf. I don't have to listen to some commision making speed shop guy feed me a line of BS just to buy a freeking coil for 10 bucks to much.

Ye, Autozone has pissed me off before, but rarely.

And Stealths are coming as hard to come by around here as a GN in good condition. I like to see people are still driving them.

That's why I shop at Summit racing. Local speed shop is overpriced understocked and crap. I have to wait far longer to get parts there to pay more for the same stuff at Summit. Of course this isn't really on topic.
Those twin turbo stealths sure are nice cars to cruise in even though they're really heavy and take a lot of money to mod.

I don't think a 383 alone will do it, you'll need steeper gears than what you already have to catch that stealth...

As for TT Stealth's being very very fast, well, wouldn't a TT 305-SBC be even faster (not to mention in a lighter car)???

Why do you say that???

During the Big Block wars of the late 60's and early 70's... these cars averaged way over 400 cubic inches, and were clocked at around 13 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

Even the lighter cars with the small blocks that literally rev'ed to infinity.... they were only clocked at around high 13's, low 14's.

Take a look at what Lingenfelter did to his TT Corvette LS1 last year. It runs an automatic, and with the turbos, it runs a street legal, 9 seconds flat.

There was an article in Super Chevy a few years back called "Kinetic Engineering", in which some guy worked his 305 TPI.... installed a Vortech, modified the 700R4, and he ran a street legal 10.50's in the quarter (looking completely stock).

If he runs that same Stealth after installing boost.... it'll be a totally different race, even with the 305.

you're also talking old tire technology and ****ty supensions. In the present day if someone took the time to build a 383 and can't run faster than that there is something really wrong.

As far as the TT 305 comment..it's not that easy to do it RIGHT. Sure any ******* can slap together a system that may work but to do it right it takes a lot of planning, a lot of fabrication. If it was so easy A LOT more thirdgenners would be turbo'ed, though the number is increasing which is a nice thing to see

Absolutely.... technology heavily and undoubtedly exceeded much from way back then. I was just concerned with the highway advantage of a boost oriented system (where the cars are already running 50-60mph, then nailing it).

But as for the TT for a 305, oh yeah... its ridiculous as far as cost. But I honestly prefer the Vortech Supercharger over a Turbo.... especially now since they come for our Carbed cars.
