92 RS vs. Lumina...... ugly
I was out in my wife's stock 92 RS (5.0 TBI, auto trans, 2.73 rear gears). For unexplainable reasons a guy in a late model Lumina and I go at it from a stoplight up near Horsham, PA where I work. Just a quick "I need to get to the next light before you" kinda race. I did NOT win. I nailed it from the instant the light turned green (car can't even squeak the right rear tire). He walked out briskly next to me and then nailed it when he realized I was hard into it. By about 40-50 MPH he had a length or so on me and I didn't gain an inch after that (I didn't lose an inch, either).
No, it was not a Z-34 Lumina. Just a plain old rental car 3.1/3.4L rental car kinda Lumina. And yes, the Camaro seems to be running just fine- no problems or hiccups that would indicate problems with the motor.
I just LOST. Period.
Pathetic. My calibrated butt tells me this is a high 16- low 17 second car. The race only confirms that.
Mods to come...............
Dog dirt cheap carbureted 350 with some goodies. Including a plate nitrous system I have laying around. Goal is to lop 4-5 seconds off the car for under $1500 using a LOT of parts I already have laying around. We'll see how I do.

I know how that goes. I was riding with my friend in his 89 RS TBI 305 auto convertable and we met up to my other friend in his 00 Celica GT with intake and exhaust and raced. We took him off the line but not by much then he caught us and passed like nothing. That makes you want to just rev your engine till it blows. My friend was pissed. The celica only has a 1.8 L engine!! Oh well these cars have alot of potential for cheap so it's not the end of the world. I saw a RamJet 350+T56+4.10 rear car beat a Z06 off the line and much of the quarter but then lost by a little, not bad I say.

Not suprising, in stock form they are not very impressive. Mine ran a 16.3 at 82 all stock. Go mod it now. The good thing is you can gain lots with just bolt ons.

You sure it wasn't a 3.8 instead of a 3.1./3.4? The 3.4's have 160 horsepower and alot less torque. I can see the 3800 series Lumina's taking LO3 birds and camaros though. Next time race it from a stop. Raced my girl's 99 LTZ 3.8 from a 60 mph roll and I couldn't pull anything in my mom's 4.9 Caddy. Raced it from a stop and pulled a couple cars lengths instantly, and that Caddy weighs much more than the Lumina, has the same amount of horsepower, but comparitively the Caddy had way more torque.
