Back in action in the GTA...vs. 96 300ZX

Well fter having my GTA sittin out there and not movig it, I got to missing it and put some money back in it...got a new windshield, new hood, new front struts, moved the base timing to 8*, got a new hood and gonna get it painted in about two weeks....well a buddy of mine..has a 96 or something 300ZX N/A, 5 Speeed, Crank Pulley, AeroSpeed Cat Back and a pop charger...my GTA has everything I stated and an original catalytic converter that will be coming off soon with the exhaust...well we line up from a stop and he revs and I give him the nod and get ready for the green light....light goes green, he slips the clutch and I roll out ot about 1600 RPM and punch it, and spin the tires into second gear....and he hooks before me but half way through second we are neck and neck until I hit about 3500 RPMs and start to pull on him...HARD!!!! hit third and just pull and I hear him shifting and the race is over at about a 1/4 mile or so and we catch the next light and I tell him he needs to go back to domestic.....and thats a kill for the GTA....got a race with buddy of mine in a Talon TSI AWD coming up..I know I'm gonna lose but its cool....Aaron

350Z's

a guy I have seen around here has a 350Z with 20' and he goes 14.8 on the 20's and 13.8-13.9 on slix, its pretty nice looking, the 300ZX twin turbos are rare around here, the only turbo cars out here are Fiero's ( two of them, both running 12's with the 3.8 motor ), a twin turbo stealth, grand nationals....those Nissan cars are getting pretty popular around here, my buddy is running a 12.6 in a 4 door 95 Maxima....with bolt ons and a 100 shot of NX.....im thinking of running nitrous in my L98 after I get some more bolt ons.....AARON

ps. what do the 300ZX Twin Turbo's run.....

the 300zx twins should be low 14's
from what I understand might be able to hit a high 13 with a good driver

no first hand on these cars just heresay though
but from the guys who come over to rx7club that own them say it is HARD to get a good launch out of them

Sad note guys...

My buddy with the 300 totalled it Friday morning coming home from a party at about 2:30 AM into a wooden utility pole, he on got a bump on his head, but the car is gone, I always told him not to drive like that, and he did so now his car is gone, and glad to say that he is not....life teaches you lessons, maybe this will teach him a real big one....AARON

I got a 93 300ZX Covertible w/headers and borla exhaust and I'm sure I'm no better than high 14s. I visit the Z boards and they have a few people there who modded an NA 300Z w/every mod available and dyno at 210rwhp(250-260bhp) and still can never get out of 14s. The TTZ on the other hand in stock trim did do low 14s but the boost could easily be turned up to make the car have a reliable 390bhp and pull high 12s w/a some skill. There are people that get into 11s w/stock turbos but they got every other bolt-on to get the most out of the car.
IMO, HP per dollar these cars are not so great for drag racing. Parts are very expensive and for the same money you can get a thirdgen into better 1/4 times w/less pain.
On the other hand the handling on 90-96 300ZX is a different story. My NA Z , no less a convertible will out perform my WS6 Firebird at any speed and they weigh about the same. Just shows that the suspensions are set up completely different and it reflected in the price of both cars when they were new. The Z is also more aerodynamic and even w/the measly 222hp can sail at 130+mph effortlesly.
I do love both cars but they are apples and oranges if you wanna compare them.
