2003 Tiburon GT.......

A buddy of mine has one of these things and is always talking like it is the fastest thing on the planet. We somehow NEVER catch each other going to work....UNTIL TODAY!!!!!

Pull up on him at the light.....I look over and he isn't even looking my way (the ole' maybe if I don't look, he might not try) Light turns and I hook and roll about 4 cars on him and decide to let off.

Now here is the kicker......He told everyone at work " I knew I was in trouble when I took off in Second:lala: :lala: "......Lame excuse of the decade.

Nice looking ride though....not riced out and is STOCK!!! The best thing about the car is that the doors swing open at a ninety degree angle. Very easy to climb out of....

Very easy to work on also Except plug/wire changes are a bitch on the GT's. I watched a kid consistently run 15.4's in one out at the track one night. I was pretty impressed.

There's a Hyundai dealer by my house. They must have over a hundred of those cars on their lot. I guess the sales guys are going to be trying to push them out the door for the summer.

my gf is thinking of getting one of these cars. Are they actually reliable? I realize that Hyundai has been around for a bit and are really pushing for an image. But, how are these cars as commuters? Would you drive one as a daily driver (nevermind the import thing, and the cost)?

I looked under the hood of their Tuscani V6 model, and I have to say that I'm really beginning to hate how manufacturers are choking the engine bay with plastic covers for looks..

I've been working on Hyundai's for a living since I was 16 years old (5 1/2 years now). Reliable? Yes. Good daily drivers? Yes. You can't beat the warranty, and they're VERY easy to work on. If you're planning on keeping it for a long time, it's a good investment. If you're planning on keeping it for 2 - 4 years, bad idea. Hyundai's, mainly because of their well-deserved poor reputation (it's all in the past, but first impressions are hard to overcome), depreciate VERY quickly.

On another note...

The dealership I'm at now sells both Hyundai and Mitsubishi. Quality-wise, I'd say Hyundai is light years ahead of Mitsubishi. We also sell 2 Hyundai's for every 1 Mitsubishi we sell, so I think that tells you something right there. The old turbo Eclipses are loads more fun to drive than the new Tiburons though

I thought the Mitsubishis would be outselling the Hyundais, because the Eclipse is THE car to own. Not to mention that there's always a Mitsubishi commercial playing somewhere. I just remember the Hyundais from folks that I know that bought Excels when they came out in the eighties. They had all kind of problems with them. Paint was also a problem...or shoud I say the clear that was put on them. At least it sounds like they are making a better quality automobile now-a-days.

i raced an automatic one from a roll on the expressway up to 100 or so.i had him by a car,but it was a pretty even race none the less.i think that was before i got my 3 inch exhaust put on too.i cant see a manual being too much quicker.

Another interesting fact...

Hyundai used a lot of Mitsubishi parts through 1995. In 1996, they stopped using their parts and quality went up dramatically. The biggest problems that Hyundai's have are the O2 sensors on V6 Sonatas, Purge Control Valves on all cars, and window regulators on all cars although they did switch to a better design on some cars for the '03 model year, which I believe is on the Tiburon.

Yep, they're pretty quick little cars. One of the major mags, can't remember if it was MT, CD, or what, actually ran a 14.9x in one.
