Do cops lie?
I got pulled over for the first time (had my license for a year and like 1 week now)
It was like 30 minutes ago (it's 1:30am now), im coming home, it's raining, ....cop pulls me over, takes my reg/lic etc....i asked him why he pulled me over, he said i was doing 60 in a 50.....now i was only in the 50 zone for 1 light to another then it dropped to 45, and i KNOW i was doing 45 in that zone....i did the SLOWEST granny accelerating known to man simply because i was convincing myself that it would save gas...i KNOW for a fact (cause i stare at the speedo while i drive) my speedo NEVER went over 57MPH....if that....
So either he was lying and rounded the number up, or my speedo is lying....now given that radar is +/- 2 MPH and the fact i KNOW my speedo NEVER went over 57MPH....what seems more likely?
he only gave me a warning, i don't know if it's because that was the first time i was ever pulled over having my license over a year, or if it was because he knew i was really only doing like 56MPH and that he just pulled me over since it was 1am....cause i swear i was only doing like 56MPH...cause the hand BARELY went over the 55 marker...and never got the near the 60, as soon as i let go of the gas when i hit 55, it went a little over, and i just let it drop down because i was coming up to a red light (which turned green before i got there)

57 is pretty close to 60
i think you should just take the warning and be happy, if you want to see how accurate your speedo maybe try to find those police speed signs that are sometimes next to a road and see for urself w/o the car telling you what ur speed was.
i think cops can lie not sure if most would though.

well I honesltly don't know why he gave you even a warning just cuz you went 10 over but I know some people that have cop friends and they say the reason they pull people over at like 1 am is becuase the chances of a dwi are higher and the people who are most likely drunk are the ones that are driving perfect in order not to get caught, such as going the speed limit, using your signals, or any of that sort. and most of the time when the pull those people over they actually are a little drunk or extremely drunk. so don't worry about it but just for the record I still don't think he should have given you the warning. maybe a verbal warning but thats it. well that's my two cents

I've yet to see a car with a speedo that's perfect. My truck when it was brand new was like over 5mph off at 70. So if yours is off by a mph or two, and his gun was off by a mph or two, who knows... Maybe you were
But the fact remains, even though they "can't", cops can pull you over at any time for whatever reason they want, even if it's no reason at all.

you know why he pulled you over? popo's HATE thirdgens.... they pull them over as much as they can... i 've had my license for exactly one year next week.... i've been pulled over 22 times (no joke), and have gotten ALL warnings. It may just be my area, but cops hate my car. They pull me over and say i was "driving suspiciously". that is bull****. i think its just because of the car you drive, and the cop was trying to come up with a reason that he pulled you over.

even more reason to donate money to the FOP (Federal Order of Police) and put the sticker on the window of your car. heh heh heh has anyone done that and tried to get out of a speeding ticket? my dad tried that and the cop was like "that's very nice sir," but hey we only got a warning. anyone ever do that?

Our cars attract the attention anyways, and being out at 1 AM doesn't help it any at all. Countless times during the day I have music so loud I can't even hear my car with a cut out open...and I have driven by cop after cop and never had any trouble. Come 12AM on July 4th my music is *JUST* noticable from outside the car and a state trooper pulls me over for noise pollution when a car was besides me bucking his car trying to race!
Look at it this way, your a cop...camping..in stealth mode...you see a 2000 Ford Taurus pull up to a light, and an 1990 Iroc-z with an aftermarket exhaust. Who are you going to watch the most for a driver error and pull over?

I have had my license for 3 years now and I have been pulled over once in my white 89 2.8L V6. Now I own a 88 Bright red TA and a 95 Green TA and I haven't been pulled over yet *knock on wood*....and I drive late at night all of the time....and I have loud exhaust too. It must be your area.

Welcome to NJ stealth(and to the site ).... its gunna happen more and more. I was pulled over for no reason in my Z once... sort of. I see the cop by my house, and i send him a rev, ya know, cause i like to live on the edge, and i go on my way. i look behind me about 2 mins later, and there he is. I get to a light, and i can see him gettin ready. As soon as i cross the intersection, lights are blaring. So i pull over, knowing i never went near the speed limit, i stayed 5mph lower then the sign as he was following me to **** him off. I asked him what was wrong, he said that my registration stickers on my licence plate were expired. Now, i had just gotten the reg. the other day, and i put thoes SOB stickers on asap so i wont have this happen to me. So i said to the cop, sir, you wana check them again? He started to get hostile after that, he looked at the plate, and saw there for 03 (this was last year) and was like..oh..... sorry... and went back to his car. I just said thanks a lot, put it drive, and went on my way again. Stealth, where in NJ do you live? if you ever go down to Toms River, the cops are horrible. They usualy gun for the import crew, but they like to pull over the occasional domestic.

Cops are dumb sometimes, not all of them though! Just a few days ago I saw this *******-d out Honda and the people in it were drinking 40's!!! Not to long after I said that we told these cops that pulled next to us I told them. They followed the Honda and did not to a thing But yet they will pull me over when I am sober for driving 10mph over the limit

i got pulled over one time, i was crusing probably about 70 in a 35. the cop comes up to my window, and asks me, you know how fast you were going. i jus say i don't know. he says.."well i'd say you were going about 90". i try to argue a bit, but in the end, get a ticket for going 90 in a 35.
cops do lie.
and they are evil.
oh, and when i used to go down to mill ave everynight and cruise with everyone, i got 30 tickets in 30 days. cops hate our cars. most of my tickets were bullsh*t violations like, driving with only foglights on, cruising (pass same point 3 times in 2 hours), noise pollution (stereo), breaking traction ...and evry other retarded thing you can think of.
i currently have a suspended license and am trying to pay off the courts. they'll never stop me from driving though.

It has alot to do with what is driving the cops too. Wanna get a ticket? Then speed on the first nice day near the end of almost a month of bad weather, the cops needing so badly to make the supposedly non-existent quota are sure to give you one. Also our town subsidizes alot of money out of us for what I call yellow light tickets. You don't have to run a red one, they simply watch for you to run a yellow and give you a ticket for running a red. this also generates alot of fine money for un-insured, expired, and suspended license fines. IWhen I first found out about this my best friends were riding in a car that ran a yellow. When fighting it him, his wife, and my other best friend all testified in court against the police officer. Also the police officer had a police department employee riding with him at the time of the supposed infraction (the employee is a domestic violence specialist). The police dept employee also testified AGAINST THE OFFICER! An attorney was used by my friend to argue his case and to file the appeal. after all the testimony the judge had a dull unimpressed look on his face and simply found him still guilty! The lawyer's jaw dropped! this was the day I discovered there is no justice when it comes to separating the city from its ill gotten fines. My friend wanted to appeal the whole case but they told him he could only do it with jury trial which requires a pre-payment for court and jury fees in the amount of $1000 which part of it wouldnt be refunded if he won and none if he lost. If a judge could compromise his integrity in favor of the city in a traffic court then whats to stop one from doing it in appeal? So he never bothered.

Funny this should come up....
Ok, you guys know how low the roofline is on these cars right? I mean, when you have the tops off, alot of us have the tops of our heads sticking out, right?
Anywho... last Friday, its was REALLY hot, so after school, me and my buddy take the tops off. So we're going out for a spin, taking the long way home. Well, we go by this other HS and he sees his girlfriend walk by, so he looks up and shouts to her (about 10 feet away) and we stop to pick her up. So i get to the end of the block, stop for the stop sign, go again when i see the lights.... So i pull over, cop walks up to me and says:
"Who's the genius standing up in a moving car?"
So my friend gets out so he can get his wallet out to show the guy his licence, and i hear the cop ask if he can afford a $140 stunting ticket!!!
He did just get off with a warning, but WTF?! All he did is look up and his head stuck out MAYBE 4"!!!
The cop was not a jerk or anything, but I still can't see why he really pulled me over. That's laughable.. poking your head through the open top and getting a stunting ticket?
Oh well, no loss this time i guess.

I got a ticket for "abeting speed contest" for reving my engine at a ***** (uncle bens, minute, mahatma choose your brand) who proptly fried his tires off from the light while I drove away like normal. The cop told me the guy would have never have acted like a jackass if I didnt pipe him. He didnt even go after the guy. it was a $300 fine but the lawyer only charged me $150 to get it dropped. "abeting speed contest" would be the same as instigating someone by cheering them on. You can get a "abeting reckless driving" for telling some jackass to "FRY 'EM DUDE!" on cruise night downtown. Its becoming more and more popular among officers also new laws allowing tickets and fines for suspicion of speed contest for driving a prostreet car around the wrong areas at the wrong times or places. It is the first time in history where you can be convicted without trial for merely the suspicion of a crime instead of the actual crime.

Funny you say that, about a year ago when I was driving my Z there were 2 cars in front of me, one was a 90-93 Mustand and the other was a new Z28! They both drove like maniacs weeving threw traffic. Obviosly they were speeding. I was speeding but I was not trying to race them, at the most I was going 15 mph over. and guess what the cop pulls me over and tells me that I am racing. He said that he could not pull over all three of us so he pulled me over. What got me even more mad is my car was the cheapest looking out of the three! He kept telling me that I was racing and I kept denying it. He told me if I admitted to racing that he would not have my car hauled away. So I sayed I raced really sarcastically I he wrote me up for speeding 60 in a 40 I hated that guy.

I wonder what a cop would do if you pulled up at a lite and reved your engine? Some would probably think it was funny! Depends on the cop I guess!
