Got took by a mostly stock 4.6 4v
ok heres the catch, it was in a 89 lx hatch. it had the t56 tranny in it and some rear suspension work. he rolled up on me at a stop-n-rob and asked me if i was stock. after i told him what i had he asked if i wanted to run em, i said ok. we lined up at a light and when it turned green we left. i pulled about 1-1.5 lengths in first and then about half way through second he flew past me and walked about 2 lengths and stayed. i was running about 115 so it was close to a 1/4. we then went back to the stop-n-rob and i asked him what he had and he told me and let me check it out. it was a bone stock 2001 cobra motorwith a php intake and erson strip cams! i was in shock! the power of those motors in the foxbody cars is a lethal combo. i have mad respect for those 4.6 4v motors now. he also had 4.10 gears and off road exhaust. that motor looked wicked in that car.

Awesome! Once I finally graduate and get a real job, I'm planning on building a 4.6 powered fox body. Best of both worlds there...

A guy in our club had a 4.6 DOHC in his LX and the one time at the track went 13.2 before the car fell apart (literally, blew out the glass). This was with a 2.2 60' and shifting below redline! Very fast set-ups!

yeah i was surprised by the power of that damn thing. i have nearly 450 hp and that motor couldnt have been pushing but around 350-375 hp tops. the thing that ate me up was traction, i run some pretty good tires but i still cant get traction on the street. i dont hook up until about the middle of third. it was a good race, but when i get my et streets i am going to race him again.

Not to take away from your story or anything, but you really consider that mostly stock? I wouldn't consider a cammed and geared cobra mostly stock. I'de take a nicely modded 5.0 over a modded 4.6 any day.

i was refering to the internals and heads mainly, but that car would obliterate any 3rd gen with the same mods in any case. i am a firm believer in the 4.6 motors, i think that they have more performance potentil than a ohv motor hands down( i am a blower lover) i have seen them pushing 600 hp with stock unported heads. as soon as i get enough money to build a car like that it's on. not to start any trouble but the only reason that i drive a third gen or even a chevy is the cost, i would give a limb to be in a 03 cobr or mach 1.

I'd personally much rather have a 4V 4.6 over a 5.0. As soon as I get the money, the 5.0 is gone and I'm getting a Cobra.

Bone stock motor does NOT equal bone stock exhaust, gearing, computer, transmission, etc. Think about it...they're trapping 110 - 112 stock at 3600 - 3700 lbs. Now drop that into a 2900 - 3000 lb fox body with the suspension to put the power to the ground...you'd better believe it

Do you believe an 11.50 @ 110 mph? I watched a WS6 pull that time here at IRP. 110 mph trap speed is not particularly impressive for an 11.5 second run. That is becaue he dumped all his money into the car not the engine. The car left like it was shot out of a catapult, but by the 1/8 he was pretty much so just along for the ride. So, I'll buy an 11.10 @ 123 all day long with a 390 HP engine.

This may help http://www.modularfox.com/
I have a source for 4V motors/4R70W trannies/wiring harnesses for a little under $1000 if you're seriously interested.
edit: Those aren't '03 Cobra motors that I can get for that price

Some day if I get some of my other projects done I'ld like to build a mini-tubbed '64-'65 ford falcon w/a DOHC 4.6.

Nice pic, Nic.
You don't see how a blown dohc motor that makes 390 hp stock could run low 11's in a fox body?
Your pulling a motor out of a car that runs 12.6 in a heavy car with an IRS, and dumping it into a much lighter car with a solid 8.8, also I'm sure that stang has been tied together, has a real exhaust, and some good tires.
I can see it running those times.
