92 Z vs. 86 Mustang GT
Hey I got a question, I have a 92 Z with a 350 TPI with a 4 spd auto and stock, My friend just bought a 1986 Mustang GT with a 5.0 EFI, and he has a 5 spd stick shift, Who would win this race??? I want to know before I race him

u should beat him if hes stock...
auto shift to ensure the win...
if you don't know how... start practicing...
i've learned to do it on mine already...
but only autoshift if its rebuilt, if you have to many miles on it... then forget it...
plus it depends on the driver...
he might miss a gear.... that means a lot in a race

5.0's are slower than u think. mid 80's blow. you will take him no prob, if u get ur good start. they have alot of top end though. after 60 there gone. I suggest a short low end race.

With the time in your sig you shouldn't have any problem with a stock or bolt-on 5.0. I run close to what you do and I sure don't...most of the time.

You'll kill him if you're running 14.1. Do you let your tranny shift on it's own or do you shift it manually? That can mean time depending on which way you do it. However, in this race I don't think it would matter...

With my 14.1, I let my tranny shift manually, I am just wondering because he beat a 82 Z/28 that had CFI and he had a 5 spd I believe..............

You've got nearly 100hp and over 100 ft-lbs of torque over a near stock 82 CFI car... No comparison...
If you run anywhere near as well as you did on the 14.1 run you will crush most any stock/near stock 5.0. That's all you need to know...

It normally shifts at 5000 RPM's by itself I believe, Just out of curiosity, What would a 1987 GTA Trans Am with a 305 TPI and a auto tranny run? Ok I am gonna run him tomorrow night to shut his mouth

the 1986 Mustang was rated at 200HP. It was the first year of EFI and had crappy heads, intake and tiny *** throttle body. First year for dual exhaust on the Mustang.
The 86 did make a flatter torque curve than the 87-93 Mustangs due to the smaller intake. Add that on top of the fact that the GT was really built on what would be the LX body since it didn't have the side skirts in '86.
With a good driver they could hit high 14's.

Stock you would. However they are pretty easily modified, having a turbocharged engine with AWD. Unless I'm mistaken it's the same setup as used in the turbo Talon/Eclipse/Laser, all known as DSMs. Alot of people are into modifying these. He could be pretty fast depending on what's done...

the galant with just a couple of free mods would romp on you most likely. my friend has a talon turbo front wheel drive i get him in my first and half of second cause he has 1 wheel drive but then he pulls to a 8 car length win, with the galant being awd you dont have a chance. i've seen one launch at the strip last summer and he took a 10 second car off the line to his 2nd gear. but then again its fun just to race. and i'm rollin a 92 z with 350 tpi with a chip headers to 3in pipe intake ported polished k&n intake and 3.73s.

I have intake and exhaust mods on my car! After I get it tuned (maybe get a chip who knows) on April 19th, and then go to the track on April 26th I should get some mid to low 13s out of it! Right now It is pretty slow for what it has!

92Z28, you need to be shifting at 5500 RPM man. TPI intakes aren't good past that, but, you need to go at least that far with it. RPM's are time man, I think you'd run faster if you would shift it manually. I know my car did....

I'm shooting for mid 14's stok out of my 86 LX but it is VERY light. Most 86 GT's are high 14's with a good driver. You will win if you are running 14.1's!
