92 3.1 or a 95-99 GST Eclipse
The eclipse would be a 5speed, 92 is auto. now assuming both drivers are equally matched..and since the eclipse is only about 200 lbs lighter than the Camaro (if im correct..camaro 3300 and eclipse is 3100 w/o driver)..so assuming all things are equal, which car wins?

People really need to stop quoting times that almost no one pulls. Over the summer when I went to the track and saw about 10-15 DSM(only talking about the turbo ones) and they all ran mid-low 15's. This included TSi AWD and GSX models. I also beat a GSX with exhaust I believe, when I had my 85 Iroc with a 305 TPI, my car had i/h/e and a cam, his car was a manual and I pulled about 1 to 1 1/2 cars on him by 70. He was revving and when light turned caught him during a down rev, and he didnt even pull on me out of the hole. I would say by the end of the 1/4 I would have had at least a car on him, and that is about a sec. Not everyone can drive good, so I wouldnt expect those times out of the avg driver.

you will get smoked big time! Those dsm's are not a joke. Stock they can run low 15's and with minimal mods can be in the 14's easily. Watch out for the ones with upgraged turbos and fuel system. They can take out stock ls1's.

I believe that a GS-T with a 5spd can hit high 14's, but I have never seen it. I just get sick of seeing people quoting magazine times. Its seems that everyone and their grandmother can run 14's with a stock DSM but they never have slips or proof. I would expect 15's more often out of stock DSM, mostly lows though.
IF you want to get a GS-T, why not look at a TSi AWD, or a GSX, cause if you look hard enough you can find one for a very good price.

I drove a GST auto. It wasn't terribly fast at first, but once that turbo got spinning, look out. It was a very quick little car. They can handle fairly well too (compared to my 76 camaro). I raced a GSX once, I think it was modded. That thing blew me awy, but that was also back when I was stock. Yeah definitly GST.

Sigh... Well when i had my 90 bird with the 3.1 in it.. i raced a basic model eclipse.. i lost off the line, and gained a little, the when he shifted to 2nd he had a car, and held it until about 70 when we stopped..
Now if its a turbo.. i saw a stock one with only a aftermarket blowoff valve, give it to a 93 cobra. (guy in the cobra isnt a very good driver, and almost lost it going into 3rd..) he went sideways and barely got contoll back..
I also saw the eclipse run my friend in a 99 dakota v6, with a 5 speed... This guy has GREAT reaction time... but still outa the hole, eclipse had him by 2 cars, and by the time he shifted to second, it was over.
Ive ridin in one of the turbo ones... i didnt think it felt to fast from 0-60, but 60-100 was like a bat outa hell!!!!!

The stock turbos on those eclipses have a lot of turbo lag, I've driven them before and you have to wait about 2 sec for it to kick in. I might have just come across one in bad condition. I don't know. But I figure if the guy is a avid racer, he would keep it tuned up.

GS-Ts are definately quick little cars but they are fwd:nono: . Since you don't want a rwd car in the winter than wait a little and look for an awd talon or eclipse. And like it's been said, they can be made very fast.

if you can, keep the maro at all costs.you wont want a DSM as your main car with nothing to fall back on.because it WILL break.and if you dont want major problems, make sure to keep that timing belt in check.and treat the tranny right.they are very weak units.
