Almost beat a 2002 mustang tonite with a quad 4
Tonite, we when downtown to cruise the ave. For some street racing. We rolled up to a 2002 mustang v6 they had 4 passenger, so did we. We were riding in a grand am, quad 4 motor. He's revin, were revin, Then it turns green, we shift at 45mph in 1st then throw it into second at 65, then third finally, we are close by him, we were pulling up a good fight but lost by 1 full car length, we got the car up to about 80 until we hit the next light. They couldnt believe we kept up with them. We spun the front tires and left them, not to see them the rest of the night. My friends car is stock nothing done to it, not bad, it would have looked really bad for him if he would have lost. The rest of the night watched the fart can cars get there a** whopped by some real cars. It turned out to be a good night downtown.

Isnt the quad four with a 5 spd supposed to be a low 15's sec car? Cause if it is than you should have no problem running with a '02 v-6 Stang. Those are not the fastest cars stock, I think mid-high 15's.

A non full Mustang should run in the mid to low 15s if it is a 5-speed car. My friends went 15.4 and with his mods is now in the high 14s. If it was an auto it would be a high 15 car. I think you held up to about what you should.

Car: 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham 2dr Coupe
Engine: 403 Olds v8, bored .030 over
Transmission: 350 T.H. 3A, shift kit
Is it the 1995 HO Quad 4 with 185 hp? A guy used to beat up on my Crown Vic with one of those. I could beat him off the line, then he fly up 2-3 car lengths on me, then, SLOWLY, VERY SLOWLY, I'd start bringing him back in. His was a 3 speed Auto. I think it was governed to 109 top. Not bad. They WERE 15 second cars, getting to 60 in about 7.7 seconds or thereabouts. Not to be trifled with as far as 4 cylinders go.
Funny--there is that engine and the Chrysler 2.2, Ford HSC 2.3 and standard 2.3, the Pontiac Iron Duke 2.5...How can people say, "America doesn't make quality 4 cylinders? True, their not so quick stock, BUT...were ALL the Japanese and German ones? No. These were descent engines, ESPECIALLY for the era they were released in.

The Quad 4 was a decent engine, from a hp standpoint, but suffered from NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) problems. Early Quad 4s had terrible reliability issues that really turned off many people to them. Many people also didn't want to rev to almost 7000 rpm to make power. The last High Output Quad 4s were actually very reliable. The Quad 4 didn't need a PCV or EGR system, and it's been said by GM engineers that the Quad 4 could pass modern emissions tests without a catalytic converter.
