Neon wants to run me

Ok my friends got this neon. Its a 95 sport coupe SOHC 5 speed. He's got a cold air intake, underdrive pulleys, catback exhaust, header, 52mm throttle body, ACR tranny(geared lower than the S/C), and a computer. He ran 15.9 at the track last year. And I ran a 16.4 with a slipping clutch and no driving ability. Now I have a new clutch and headers, plus I am a lot better at ripping the gears. My friends say that from riding in both cars mine feels faster, but I'm still not sure. Do you think I can take him? I want to race, but if I lose to a Neon I'll feel pretty damn stupid.

You'll beat him, shifting a 5 speed is hard work for a beginner. If you can rip the gears now, that takes 2 10ths off easy, Headers are gonna help you out alot.

Don't post if he beats you!!!! We'll be pissed!!! Just joking, 15.9??? that's pretty quick for a 4 banger,

It's still butt ugly though right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 3 speed auto really steals a lot of power I've heard. I know a guy who is running 15.3 in his neon with just a rigged up cold air intake. But his car is light as hell and this guy drives like john force.

dude neons are like 8 shades of gay......my girlfriend has one and i cant stand driving it.....

anyone notice that the steering wheel is about 3 inches from the door? what a POS.

also, that sounded like that kid spent quite a bit of money to go no place fast, thats just dumb. if i bought a car, and it ran 15.9 id kill myself, nevermind if i spent money on it. what a sh*t snake

yah you should whip him, neons suk so bad, i mean yah you could go and buy a new neon str-4 and run 14's all day and it would cost you like what, $20k, or you can buy a low mileage thirdgen for about $5k, put about another $5k into engine mods and other stuff, and you could easily hit 13s
so in short, neons suck for what you pay for them, period
p.s. tell your friend to bring a extra head gasket along when he races

ya, my brother is a mechanic and he used to work at a dodge dealership....

he told me he spent half his work week changing neon head gaskets. the also found a better way to put them in so they could save time....do the job in 2 hours get paid for like 6 or something (i think it was a 6 hour job in the book.

all they did was unbolt some stuff, leave the exhaust bolted to the head, put a jack under the exhaust and lift up the head...old gasket out, new gasket in

what, are you insane, do you want people laughing at you all the time for driving around in a neon,. even if you deck it out or make it go fast, it will never hold up

i think the funniest thing is that most of you people who bash on these cars drive rusted out, slashed interior 305 powered POSs. you probably get laughed at more than i ever would and at least i wouldnt be expected to beat anything on the road (but i still would). this just about settles it. im tempted to go wax the car again, call autotrader and go get me a for sale sign.

with the money ic ould sell the camaro for i could get rid of all the debt i've spent cleaning it up and start all over on the neon. doesn't need a new headgasket yet (yes, they do blow, but anyone with half a brain can fix that and catch it early enough to prevent any damage). for well under a grand i could run 13s. lol... in my stock appearing "slow, ugly 4 cylinder".

geez where do i begin, well lets see you do have one point an one point only and thats that most third gen camaros are rusted out pos cars, but buddy, mine is not one of them. i get more looks and compliments on my camaro in 1 day then you will get in your neon for the intire year, ad that is the truth, oh yes its true. secondly, is your neon a r/t or not, because if its not, then son its gonna take a lot more than grand to get a neon running 13's. lets see, if its an r/t then you shoud be running high to mid 15's, the only things you could do to that car for a grand to run 13's is put a 100 shot of nos, and maybe a cold air intake, full exhaust, and there goes a grand, you still probably woouldnt run 13's
as far as my car goes, i spent 3 grand on it with 50k miles, now has 80k and is still mint condition so **** off homo, oh by the way how much are you selling your camaro for, ill buy it for 500 bucks cuz thats probably all its worth jerky

nx efi kit with jets to run 100 shot - 450-500

dynomax catback - 80 bucks for piping 100 for the muffler

underdrive pulley - 100 bucks with belts

3000 stall - 250 bucks

Omni ATX transfer gears for better gearing - 20-50 bucks at junkyard

that puts me right near 1100 (sorry im off a little) bucks and I can GUARANTEE it would run 13s

heres some more points for you. a 305 backed with an automatic runs what, MAYBE a high 15 (we're talking stock here). a dohc neon backed with a 5 spd runs a what, high 15. so performance in these cars is a moot point.

as for looks, i did not SINGLE OUT your car but rather the majority of the people who have and will post in these threads and others bashing 4 cylinder cars. most of the time their best comeback is that its slow and ugly which makes them no worse than the cars these people drive around.

on another note, do not personally attack me with slurs such as "homo" or "jerky" or any other middle school language you have rolling around in your head unless you can at least back it up. i WILL refer to you as ignorant becuase you've proven it in your last few posts but ignorance is bliss so im sure you're ok with that...

But dude your going to sell the Camaro for a Neon. Come on think about it, Ok put down the pipe and think about it. Your going to hot rod a neon, Even for $1000 your not going to run 13's. The neon is not a platform that can handle 13's on a daily basis (Camaro can). Neon is about maxed out if you do ever get to 13's (Camaro isn't even started to be modded).

I just can't see and uncomfortable little compact car being chosen over a Camaro, but hey it's America it's your choice. Oh yea with a $1000 worth of mods to the Z you could be in the 13's too, (even faster than the neon).

well see, now its like i've been challenged to get the neon to do it. whereas, like you said, with the camaro it isnt (wasnt) much of a challenge. im more or less just mouthing off about selling it anyways.. seeing as i just got my new exhaust to replace the 2.5" **** i've been running and my NX kit will be on its way here soon....

no worries. guess i just need to get another job and have one income for teh camaro and another income for the neon.

and yes, it very well could run 13s with little more than 1 grand... dont make me prove it. lol.

I don't mean to start anything, but a neon can't safely run a 100 shot on its stock internals. That kid running 15.3(without NOS) did 3, right, 3 times at the track and threw a rod everytime. Maybe its just a fluke, who knows. I don't have a problem with neons. If it runs 13's id drive it. A fast car is a fast car.

But what's the Neon gonna run the rest of the time? :lala: You know, the remainder 99% of the time you drive it N O T pushing the button for N20...
For $1,000, I could have my TPI 305 running 14.0 (and that's 100% of the time...)

hey big mike, where are you now?!? dont have nothing to say huh, oh yeah thats right you probably dont have time to chat on the net cuz you waste it all on changing head gaskets for your neon LOL! dude the only way your ever going to get any respect or fun and reliability out of a neon is if you turbocharge it, and you can guess how much that would cost you
but even still a turbocharged neon is nothing compared to a supercharged camaro, or even a twin turbo camaro hehe that is my dream car

Well, i own both and can tell you that you would take the neon. And the get the neon to run 13s you would spend alot more then $1000. You would have to boost it with something like a Hanh RC stage II, or swap to a 2.4 outta a cirrus, or get a dohc and swap all the internals and tune it to hell.

Hands down, the 3rd gen cars are much better.... Dont listen to mike.
