this is soooo sad.

hmmm how can i put this.... i guess ill just tell u what happened.

Im driving home from work one day, about a week ago. I stop at a stop light and a new looking taurse is beside me... the guy is looking dead at me reving.. im laughing me *** off thinking that even tho i have a v6, this should be a joke. Well light turns green. and vroom.. i lose a car length every second almost.. it was the saddest moment in my life.

Im comming home from work once again, i see an early 90's taurse comming on my tail going about 100 in a 55, so i speed up, well we come to a light again, and he is in front of me, he floors it, and so do i, he is leaving me like i was parked...

i dont think i can take this anymore. Once i get my few cosmetic things done to my car, its LT1 time, im not taking this anymore. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to install?

Oh yeh this is my first post on the racing board, Well i dont race much, but the only time i just plain kicked *** was vs. the SOOOOO japed out honda civic that goes to my school.. that was fun... sence then ive been on a losing streak.

Well, this is the wrong board, better asked on the tech board. But here's my .02 .

If you've never done this before, I would suggest getting a crate engine, like ZZ4 (if emissions aren't a concern). An LT1 swap isn't simple, a lot of wiring as well.

But good luck, oh and check out the link in my sig for Thirdgen Nat'ls '03 , it won't be till next yr so it gives you some time. If interested email me buffshields@yahoo.com with your name/thirdgen name/and aim if you use it. Thanks.

Maybe they were Taurus SHO"s??? Those cars are pretty quick cars.

i've never driven a V6 f-body before, but i used to drive my mom's 95 Taurus SE daily. It was slow. Very slow. I'm sorry bro, but maybe something's wrong with your engine? The newer Taurus' i can understand. The newer SHO's (late 90's) had V8 (4.6 i think) so i can understand you losing off the line. The race with the older one though... Something's wrong. My car is out of tune too so i'm not badmouthing you. Just get the V8 and you will be a happy man. As long as it's not my engine. It's cursed i think.

it didnt mean it was a sho. my wife has a 2000 taurus and i beat a lot of cars with it. she takes down a lot of ricers with it. it is really surprisingly quick for a v6 family car. heck from a roll she almost beat me in my z28

I used to own a 98 SHO and it had a V-8. It was no joke as far as stock cars go. It would get up and go off the line and it could float up top also. I will find a pic and post it.

After they went to the new generation they put a small V-8 in them, like a 3.4 liter or something, it was not the 4.6 i know for a fact. The early V-6 ones where quicker. I know I ran into one with my 2.8. He was riding my tail, it opened up as soon as it got two lanes I floored it and he blew by me like I was standing still. Car sounded good. Guy laughed at me, if I pulled next to him I wouldve congradulated him on roasting my 35 horse 2.8, and told him my firebird wouldve done worse than that to him.

when i first had my car (like the first week), and it still had really really sh*tty tires, my friend and i were on 130 (i think it runs from jersey all the way to florida) at a light, and when it turned green he gunned it and i just sat there and spun for a couple seconds. he got a big jump on me, like 3 or 4 cars, and he stayed on the gas, but i kept gaining and then i finally passed him around 80. but after that, he kept telling everybody that i beat him.

also, on the way home from getting my car, i was following my dad home in our 2001 sable v6, and when i finally recognized where we were and i knew i could get myself home, i tried to pass him, but he noticed early and stayed with me from like 60-80.

so yea, the ones with the 3.0 liter v6 are quick. they've got 200 horses at somewhere between 5 and 6 grand rpm's, and the torque numbers are somewhere around there. but when you stomp on the gas, there's kind of a lag before it really kicks in, which is great because you can floor it off the line and it pretty much does all the work for you.

so yea, the dohc 3 liter is really quick, so i can understand you losing to it. the other v6, i think it's called the vulcan, is slow as hell so if you lost to that, maybe it's time for a tune up?

Out of the older-generation SHO Taurii, the 95's were fastest, I believe. The first couple of SHO years, they weren't that great. F*rd tweaked 'em a little...including programming and suspension and by '95, they were mid-14's cars with few, if any, mods. After '95, they got the DOHC V-8 (a small V-8, but a V-8, nonetheless.)

I'm not sure what the newer SHOs have in them, but from my understanding, the newer V8s in them couldn't keep up with the 95 SHOs with the 220 horse Yamaha V6s. Stick that 220 horses with and intake and exhaust, and a 5-speed manual tranny, and they would supprise a couple of stock mustangs.....something to think about.

oh man I remember I got whooped by a ford taurus, I was driving my honda accord.................. it scarred me so bad I didn't race for months after that. I lost my dignity there man. my friend gave me hope when he beat a firebird and a taurus sho with his stealth, and sense then I have sworn my vengence to take on his foe, a supra twin turbo. ok that's my 2 cents. don't feel bad

Taurus performance has been going up and down since year one. From 86-91, they were slower than they should be. From 92-94 or 95, not sure which, they were ok. When they changed body styles (oval rear window) they were slower again. The newer ones are faster than ever. Though that's not really that fast. The SHO's were fast as long as they were v6s. The v8s weren't that fast. 16 second cars. Why? Because v8 or not, they were tiny engines. 207 cubes, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So here's the situation. If you're next to a Taurus, and you can't see if it has badges or not...it's nearly impossible to even guess what's in it. In some cases you may. Cases where a doofus is racing a sports car in a stock family sedan. You can guess it's a Vulcan. And the closest thing to a mod it has is its mileage.

They are a little faster than 16 second cars. I've raced two V8 Sho's and driven one and they are pretty peppy. One i raced was my friends with exhaust and pullies and he tied me back when I was running 14.8's. The older V6 5-spd SHO's are quicker though because of the stick, slightly less weight and a pretty stout Yamaha V6 engine

Well, I was close. They remind me of Auroras. They're pretty good off the line, but they kind of give out.
There was another 220-250 hp v6 that Taurus put out. I guess it could have been the Yamaha with different power ratings, but I thought maybe it was the Yamaha's replacement. I don't know.
