How fast is a new RSX??
Hey,
a kid at my school just got an Acura RSX, the base version. I was wondering how fast it is and can I beat him with my 305 tbi, LT1 cam, 3inch exhaust, 373 posi and ram air?
he has a stick and mine is an auto
thanks. Jesse

The very fastest base version with a VERY good driver has seen 15.9's. That being said, since he just got it, figure he's running about a 16.3-5.. I don't really understand buying the base version since the type s is only like 2000 more, and you can't make up the 40 Hp, suspension, transmission and stereo for that little amount of money..
If you are running under a 16 you will have no problem, the top end on the base isn't very good.

Also, that being said..
I had all the mods in my sig done to my firebird.. And it wouldn't touch my type-s.. On the top end, I start to pull on my friends l98 formula.. He kills me off the line though, it's about a .3 second difference in the 1/4..

Me and a freind were talking about RSX earlier. The Type S version hit high 14; low 15 areas with a good driver(It is funny how is it alway a good driver). Stats on Kelley Blue book post it at 160 HP and 141 Ft/Lbs of Torque. So you should not have a problem with him, just make sure it is not the Type S.

Thanks bigern. For once a third genner can reply to a post with an acura car and not bash it.
I've been saying for months now that the type-s runs a high 14, low 15.. Why that is so inconcievable is beyond me. Hopefully I can hit a 14.5 later this month once my cat-back kit comes in and maybe a header..

I try not to bash other cars, the fact that I drive a mini-van helps me with that. I wonder if everyone would be like that if they had to drive a mini-van to school, well all the cool kids do, or that is what my guidance counsellor says :lala: .
Good luck with getting your Camaro into the mid 14's, I still need to get one.

I think their over-rated. There was type-s with a CAI at the track the other day. His very best was a 10.3xx. (its the 1/8)
BUT, he was not the best driver either. (he was spining in third gear)
Also, he raced a '97 v-6 auto Camaro and only beat him by a half car.

Yeah I agree, they are trapping a good 6 MPH faster than you too. 92-94 mph at the end of the 1/4..
They are tough cars to drive right. I know, because the best 60ft time I could get was a 2.4, which is not good in the 1/4... With a good driver they are very capable of that. They may be over rated due to the fact that the average owner simply cannot stab the gas and pick up a 14.9 timeslip.

I have Raced 2 Acura RSX's type S with my IROC & have beat both, They both only had exaust and intake done to them.
Seeing as how our cars are made for bottom end tork, Off the lien I got a full cars length in front of them, then they slowly creeped up but they never got past haf a cars length, they did hang in thier though.
My opinion, there decent.

From what I heard, the 6 speed type s will run high 14's with a pro at the wheel (the same times as the Acura TL Type S). That means that the average driver probably would run a 15.1, which is fast, but not that great (but not bad for $22k new these days).

Dont worry
I held my own in my GP against one. He asked me if my "oldfolk mobile" could run. I said "I dont know? Wanna find out." I jumped good but then after a little over 1/8 we ran into traffic. I had him around my rear fender. He had a stick. When we got to the next light I said "Tell your little sister her to show you how to drive stick when you return her car." Needless to say he was mad. I still hate FWD, but thats all I got.

the reason people don't know fast or slow is that they stereo type too much, for example:
lg4/ l03 camaros run from 16.0 to 17.xx, so all 3rd gens are now slow b/c you generalize.
your average civic with a few mods will be 15's to 17's, but some people think that they are fast, b/c of seeing exotic imports such as turbo rx7's, supras, vr4, jdm type r's, etc. and then you have some that think all are slow, just because you raced a civic dx with an "intake" (really an air cleaner and a tube)
its amazing that just gaining a little knowledge can go a long way
"If ignorance is bliss then why aren't more people happy?"
