my car vs. my bud's Nova what do you guys think?

Ok here are the specs on both cars:

His car:
71 Nova
350 w/ unknown aluminum heads(we think they are GM Fast Burns)
solid flat tappet cam (unsure of size) he knows won't tell me.
M21 4-speed
4.10 gears
Victor Jr. w/ 750 carb
1 3/4 Long- tube headers
He ran a 13.4 @ 107 on street tires.

My car:
83 Camaro
406 w/ AFR 195's
Hydraulic Roller cam 230/236 .510/.520 112LSA
T-56 6-speed
3.42 gears
Edelbrock RPM Air- Gap w/750 carb
1 5/8 Shorty headers ( Have Hooker LT's on the floor behind me just not ready to install)
I have not ran at the track yet.

I am planning on getting a set of 4.10 gears, installing the LT's and maybe a Victor Jr. intake. But how close do you think it will be now?

it's going to be REAL close. His car is really light, but you have the cubes advantage. I'd say it comes down to the cam he has, but with his setup it has to be nasty otherwise it would only hurt him. If he ran a 13.4 and your sig says 14.0 i'm going to give it to him. his gears and weight will kill u off the line.

P.S. sorry Curt

That 14.0 if for my stock 95 not my 83. I think it will be close but once I get the LT's on I will have it. I think they are hurting me bad right now.

lmao that 14.0 is for his 4th gen. his 3rd gen sounds mean and will cook his friend's car, big cam or not. roller cams wont wind as far as a solid lifter cam due to valve float, but big roller cams own in high horsepower and AFR 190's/195's are about the best street heads you can buy. you have him, you will beat him.

you guys think that the engine will make up for the weight? I guess so, but if the Camaro 406 is stock weight then i don't know. Definately run that Nova and post the results.

no offense but the Nova is gonna stomp on the Maro. It weighs about 3000lbs. with those gears and a bad *** small block, that thing is gonna kill the Maro off the line and you won't be able to catch up. Sorry!!!

uhhh, 406 = globs of torque off the line. the nova may weigh less, but its not gonna make up for that until down the track. i think as long as you get a good launch with th t-56 you'll win.

if he did it right, that Nova could be like 2800lbs, more than enough to be right next to the 406 even with the hp and torque disadvantage. Those 4.10s will REALLY help off the line.

Actually the 4.10's do nothing but hurt him. He has way too much tire spin his tires are only like 6 or 7 inches wide. He has horrible traction. And it is a full interior Nova its not some stripper with no back seat.

The nova is running 13.4 with crap traction! If he figures out how to get off the line with out spinning he is goona be real close to the 12 sec mark if not past it. curt 406...globs of torque...2.42 gears. the gears could stand to be a little lower. still with the nova being lighter and having more gear, I still give it to the nova. 350s make alot of torque too, not as much but it still produces plenty.

well then it sounds like this race will be decided at the begininng. If you get a nice launch and he spins i give it to you. If he can hok then it's all over. And if you both sit there and spin then it could be close too. Overall, i'm going to have to be undecided. It will truly be a driver's race of launching.

Well what I am expecting is that we will be about dead even now. But once I get the LT's on and the 4.10's in. I'll have him beat good.

yeah, with the 4.10's and LT's you'll def take him. Race him first with what u have now and then put in the new headers and gears. Have fun and be safe dude.
