still i ran a 14.4 @ 96 w/2.2 60 so i guess we would just have to see when i go the 19th...still not convinced that only the L98 is a test to the 5spd stang, considering i raced a 90 L98 .30 over and i beat him...havent lost to one L98 yet, im sure i will sooner or later just hasnt happened. oh well, nic runs 12.7s...my car will run high 12s N/A to prove you all wrong...i just need about $3000 and uh, perhaps a garage with the correct tools, and 2 weeks paid mon - fri 9-5pm... i love stangs, i just cant stand how people rag on the 305, the only cars to really have beaten me, are the LS1, LT1, and 99 Cobra. stangs can usually be built up but ive seen a lot of people mess them up. i ran 14.4 stock and headers i ran another 14.4 but gained 2mph, and this tpi isnt worth a crap either may i add.

But my Cobra Intake isn't worth much more than a ported stock intake!!!

My car weighed 3300 lbs with me in it, no backseat, no spare tire or jack, and the 5-speed. With the auto, and the passenger seat taken out as well it weighed just over 3300. My dads car weighed 3090 with no gas, him in it, no back seat, pass seat, a drag seat, no spare or jck, no sway bar, no A/C, and lightweight front wheels!

These Mustangs aren't that light!!!

Mark, he's still got the cat and a/c, with power windows, locks and hatch and it's a hardtop. Sounds like you should weigh the same since you got the heavier engine but lighter body.

How do you figure, I have a heavier engine, not cause I have 45 cubes on him is it, they're the same size...

Transmission: Stock 700r4
I believe the 700r4 have a 3.06:1 first gear... not 3.08.

Also the 2nd gear is a 1.62 with 3rd being 1:1 and the OD is .7:1

Hope this helps clear that up!, lol

Notice he said bone stock motor, not bone stock car. There's a ton of guys running around with 12 second 5.0's with bone stock motors intake to oil pan. Heck, my heavy *** AOD convertible ran 14.23 with a bone stock motor from the paper air filter all the way to the oil pan.

For those of you interested in how this is done, check out Bob Cosby's site...he has a pretty simple recipe for how to run 12's on a bone stock motor'd 5.0 and actually ran as quick as 12.52 @ 106.9 on a bone stock motor.

Why don't you look at what you are typing before you make yourself look any dumber. Why are you Mustang guys so damn stubborn? Why can't you guys just admit that your motors are weak from the factory? There is no way in hell that a stock Mustang especially from the 80's or 90's will run a 12.52 @106.9 on a bone stock motor, in fact a new supercharged Cobra won't even do that ! Honestly, whoever brainwashed you about that being a stock motor is crazy!! If you had the slightest idea what you were talking about, then you would know that 106.9 mph usually equals well over 300HP(Depending on weight and gearing) at the wheels and i don't think your lil 5.0 liter's had that from the factory, wasn't it like about 190 at the wheels? Even if you do have the best suspension and tires possible, the car is not gonna go anywhere near 107 mph with a stock motor. Hookin up good is just gonna lower your trap speed anyway, so i just don't understand how you could say a stock 5.0 motor will go that fast. The car would have to way about 1300 lbs to go that fast!! I'm sorry, but it just doesn't equate. I'm sure there are other people that would agree with me on that. I have eye witnessed a stock(Besides exaust) 87 Iroc 350 go 14.4@ 98mph and a 91 Z28 350 go 14.3@99mph. I will admit that a Lx Mustang with good tires and a great driver will go mid to high 14's @93-95 but not anywhere near 106.9MPH. Do you really think that a 302 can go as fast as an LS1 in stock form? You can try and fool whoever you want with your BS, but intelligent people know better. Oh ya and your stock convertible automatic would be lucky to see 15's in stock form!!

lmao...you obviously know jack **** about Mustangs.

Here's the timeslip from when I ran 14.23 with a BONE STOCK MOTOR from the paper air filter all the way to the oil pan for you non-believers. The car in the other lane was my dad driving the coupe that I own now with a stock non-HO motor and AOD.

Hey if you don't want to believe it fine, but have raced high 12 second BONE STOCK MOTORED 5.0s before!!! How can you be brainwashed into thinking they cannot run those times. I have seen dyno numbers of 250+ with just exhaust (stock motor) and with that much power getting to the ground in a 3000lb car, 12s is very possible.

Oh ya, it may **** you off even more to know these cars do this on Drag Radials!!! Add a Cobra Intake (stock on 93 Cobras) GT-40 iron heads (Stock on 93 Cobras) 65mm Tbody (stock on Cobra) 70mm Mass air (stock on Cobra) and 24lb injectors (stock on Cobra) and you could see low 12s!!!

I have two words for you! Nic back me up here.

FACTORY STOCK!!!

Oh ya my dads LX went 13.31 with a 100% stock motor!!!

High 12's on a bone stock motor is easy and common in fox body Mustangs.

I have two words for you! Nic back me up here.

FACTORY STOCK!!!
Low 12's? The factory stock record is 11.80 @ 113.50 by Justin Burcham

Ya Nic, but Bercham has a few little secrets, and some may even be looked at as illegal!!! All of them have overbored the blocks and most fill the water passages in the block for strength!!! Bercham told my dad he was running 12.7 at 107 with just roller rockers!!!

Oh ya those 11.8s are on DRs!!!

What is even more impressive id the 12.02 from Bob with only the exhaust and intake bolt-ons. I am sure those 4.56s and live axle don't hurt either!!!

This is the class I am building my car for!

MY TTA weighed in at an even 3700# with me in it 1/2 tank Im 250 so figure the car itself is 3400-3500.

I dont believe a FACTORY STOCK 5.0 has gone 12's. even with gears and weight taken out.
take this example

Current car: 1989 Mustang LX 5.0L:
T-5, FMS clutch, Pro 5.0, Cobra Intake, 65mm TB, 1.7 RR, Mac CAI, Mac headers and H-pipe, Flowmasters, 3.73 gears, 17x9 Cobra R rims, w/ 275/40/17 BFG DRs. 13.9 @ 99 (whats traction???)

The MPH says it all!!!!!!!!

This settles it. I always had the sneaking suspision that 350 should have stayed in trucks. When I get a 3rd gen I'm building a 327 or a 302. Ford has always been 3 steps ahead in the motor department. Is it just me or has GM completely missed the overhead cam boat? But the mustang is just so ugly!!!!!!!!

This is the funniest thing I have ever seen!!! Why do Mustang guys always say stock, but yet they have all of this stuff done to it which would make it not stock. Stock means that nothing on the car has been changed. Looks to me like stock it ran 14.07@99 which is also BS!! I don't know where you get this idea that the car is stock but you have a list of mods???????!!!!!!!!!!!...................Mustang's are sweet!!!
You are a joke!!

Stock? Nobody said stock. There's a huge difference between stock and stock motor. And just why is the 14.07 BS? Do you have factual evidence to prove otherwise? Oh! They can't possibly run low 14's bone stock I think we've come down to a case of where you don't know **** about your competition and your continued blatant ignorance is easier to deal with than your bruised ego. Most of us here aren't blindly brand loyal and are more than willing to give credit where credit is due. I feel sorry for those of you who are just the opposite...it's pathetic to say the least.

There's nothing wrong with a 350. Nothing at all. Look at my sig, when I get new heads I should be at very low 13s or even high 12s. Give me a higher stall TC than stock and I'll be running with Nic, in a heavier car. Till he does other mods.

I will admit my car is slow, but take into consideration that the 99 trap was after 1 WEEK of driving a 5-speed. I had NO experience and with my crappy shifting (I have seen videos and I suck) I trapped 99. My dads 91 LX went 101 with nothing done to the motor. And my friends 86, with an 87 driveline went 12.9 at 104 with nothing done to the motor!!!

STOCK MOTOR STOCK MOTOR STOCK MOTOR, who the H**l leaves a car stock anyway. So you are saying a timing bump make sthe car un stock. I admit the 65mm Tbody he added makes it not a stock motor, but he went 12s well before the Tbody!!! So basically unless you see it, it has never happened. If that was the case, no stock LS1 can go any better than high 13s, no Vette either, and no LT1 could ever go 13s stock. Remember this is at MY track from what I have seen!!!

If you are that narrow minded to think it hasn't and can't be done, then the next time you get challenged by a stock Stang, go for it!!! But don't be surprised when it goes low 13s high 12s!!!

Goto an NHRA race sometime and watch the stock classes run. A "stock" motored 85 Iroc (by definition) with a 305 TPI ran a 10.98. Same class as that 11.8 that the mustang youre reffering to ran.

Yeah I was kidding. Drag racing is kinda foreign to me (being a circle track loyalist) so a 350 to me looks poorly designed. Drag racing relies on low end torque. In that case a long stroke motor like a 350 would be good. I have heard that the Ram Jet intake will give it a nice flat torque curve unlike the TPI which has a very narrow power band.

By stock we're all talking about a car that just rolled off the showroom floor right?

C'mon...this post is getting a bit out of hand. How we are just taking sides and calling each other idiots. There were some good points made by all but do you honestly think anyone is gonna win this "mine is better" battle??

Actually that class is completely different. When I say stock I mean stock. As in stock 93 Cobra parts!!! The cars with the 93 Cobra parts run low 12s high 11s!!!

If you don't believe there are stock motored 12 second Mustangs, than you NEED us here, or else you would think every Stang ran 14s!

If that was the case, no stock LS1 can go any better than high 13s, no Vette either, and no LT1 could ever go 13s stock. Remember this is at MY track from what I have seen!!!

Man, this is getting out of hand. Do you know how easily an LS1 goes to 11's with doing everything you just said? So Stock Motor alright, I just watched a 99 Z28 run a 13.1 (Many people claim they can get their car's in the 12's STOCK with nothing changed from the showroom floor, go to LS1.com or CamaroZ28.com and see.) So if you give the Z28 a full exhaust (headers catback), pullies, slicks, 4.11 gears (hell even a 3.73), Advance timing, Get ram air or cold air, got a bigger diameter throttle body, then the rest of the free mods. Are you adamant that it won't beat a 13.9? This combination has put many LS1 guys in the 11's. So they would still be stock motored right? But it's not a stock car. Am I right? And saying LT1's won't see 13's stock is dumb. There have been a few that have gotten an LT1 into the 13's FACTORY STOCK. Granted it was a 13.9 but still in the 13's. So if you give the LT1 everything you gave the LS1 you would easily be in the very low 13's. Just a little FYI.

I briefly skimmed that, but I think what the mustang guys are saying is how easy it is to get a 302 fast compared to 3rd gen engines. I don't think they put down LS1s, did they?

No they didn't. Sorry mustang5.0! I didn't see that part where you said that this is just according to what you saw. And you were defending your point. Maybe if I didn't just read half and call it a day, I would have seen that! And now I feel even more dumb because you said it was according to what was put on the 93 cobra! So basically you are replicating a 93 cobra on a coupe lx and adding a few little boltons and slicks and you run that time right? Seems like a lot of work to me. Are there any aftermarket parts that will make you run faster? Other than a Blower? Just wondering....

There is A LOT of bs coming from both sides here.

One of the main problems are that ppl are comparing times from all over the continent.. few of which are actually at sea level.
or SAE corrected.

ANY sort of modification you do to your car no longer makes it 'stock'
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE quit trying to convince us your bolt-on stang with gears is stock!

I have yet to see a stang way in less than 3300 lbs without weight reduction.
where are these magical cars??

I've met and raced 8-10 stang guys at the track this year
my dismal 13.7@98 has desimated all.(to my surprise) from procharged TFS stangs to edelbrock headed stangs, I even raced your mystical "stock" cobra motored stang on slicks!(gt40/cobra/longtubes/cam... close enough)
and a wack of other stangs in various degress of modding
and of course I'm talking about the street car class.

should I say I'm stock too?... I got factory heads still... factory block...
stock suspension...

5.0's AREN'T all that.

It's definatly cool to see how quick you can go with factory parts, but to go around talkin that you got an all stock car is just retarded.

I'm currently building up my brothers 79 stang with factory 92 GT parts.. am we going to go around telling everyone it's stock? no, because it's going to have gears and headers and a cam.

btw.. didn't the gt40 heads come off the explorers too?

This is directly from our website, www.mhra.stangnet.com. We are a small group that only races at Lebanon Valley and this is Factory Stock. The number 1-5 guys have some 93 Cobra parts, except Darrell who has stock heads, and just a Cobra intake throttle body and injectors (That is all). My dada is #7 and I was #11. Most of the #6+ cars are all stock motored even #8 is a 100% stock motored 96 4.6 with just an exhaust!!!

These cars are nowhere near the capabilities of NMRA cars, but they are cars you see everyday on the street and would think run 14s!

So they drive around on the street with their ET streets then?
Do they put the seats back in when they drive around on the street? Is the spare tire and jack put back in when driving on the street? What other weight reduction was done.
I would LOVE to see you dump your clutch at 5000 with street tires.
In street trim, they probably DO run 14's! :sillylol:

What are you trying to prove showing us this? that we all made a mistake buying thirdgens? That mustangs are better?
that your choice of vehicles is better than everyone elses?
how old are you?

Oh Mark there is no boost allowed in NHRA stock (unless it came from the factory with it). The engines are allowed to have a maximum .060 overbore and the heads cannot be ported at all, they run stock throttle bodies , and the cams stock lift must be maintained. Body must retain the stock dash, doorpanels, floorpan etc, and no fiberglass unless it came as a factory option (ie RA hood on a 4th gen). Anything is possible with some creative work.

This thread is way off topic now and needs to be closed, but I don't believe anyone ever implied they were running 12's bone stock. They said they ran 12's with a stock motor. That doesn't mean the rest of the car isn't modified. It's all in the suspension and gearing. It's basically the major milestone that a lot of the 5.0 guys shoot for and take a lot of pride in doing. That's why you're seeing the Mustang guys in here so adamantly defending it. This sort of "my dick is bigger than yours" contest is absolutely unnecessary and both sides need to work on cutting it out.

my .02 and I hope that settles
