My first time at street race!!! FINALLY SAW CARS RUN!
Okay so I head out to Orland and I'm chilling with like 50 people...two of which I can talk to (I'm new to the crowd). So I just kept to myself listening to the cars as they passed by at the spot we chill and thinking which I could beat, lose, and contend with it. I've been waiting for a bit, almost 2 hours for someone to race and I'm just about to head home when this red stang with rainbow paint on the side pulls up (they call it the gay pride stang). He's supposed to run a 78' Camaro, turns out the Camaro didn't race and a 88-93 5.0 GT Auto with tires, cam, and a 75 shot will race him instead. So we goto the race spot about 30 blocks away and man it was just like in those videos you download off the internet, intense. So after some phat *** burnouts a Black 5.0 88-93 5spd STOCK wants to run this white stang with the 75 shot. This guy was an idiot, his burnout was wayyy to long for DRs and he ended up getting smoked, the white stang took 3 cars on him by the end of the 60' and just wooped his *** the rest of the way. So after that he lets the stang cool for the race against the gay pride and 2 Dakotas run, a 5.9 (w/exhaust atleast) and another Dakota (not sure if 5.9). They run it was pretty cool, nice to see there are some cars I can compete with if I wanted to race. So its Gay Pride vs the 75 shot stang, the Gay Pride is a notch so even if hes a little powerless the less weight should help out, they heat the tires and through the 60' or so it stays even the GT out by 1/2 a car, after that the GT put 2 cars on him or so (from my perspective). This GT must have 360+ hp easy, id say mid 12s power and a lot of traction goodies. So after that this kid wanted to race me in his 5.2 Dakota with exhaust cutouts and maybe a few more things, I told him no cuz he was a truck and he would be to easy, he was making fun of me for having a 305. So he decides to race 97 Z28 auto I believe, the Dakota is 5spd (or 6??). The Dakota heats his meats and they race, THIS WAS CLOSE I THINK THE DAKOTA BEAT THIS LT1 BY 1/2 A CAR!!! So after being very impressed on our way back from the spot people move over and let us 2 lineup going about 50mph, I dump her to 2nd...no chirp, she barely held on tho the tires were so cold and covered with mud (had to park in grass to watch races). So we both punch it instant 1/2 car I put on him, and I grabbed third and put another car by end of 3rd on him!!! I have grabbed it before, but it just seemed so easy! So he wants to do it again and hes 1/2 car behind me and I hear him punch it hard, so I get on mine, dropped him in my mirror. The coolest thing about this is, that the 2nd time we raced I Grabbed 3rd AGAIN! These pullies helped me out some, and oh yea I happened to race w/ac on (disconnected plug on engine so that the fans would run but i accidently left it on)...I raced LT1s before having the 6 speeds only grab me by a car and the Autos I've beaten, I think the pullies easily should be worth a tenth and a mph.

Um, let me get this straight. In your stock 305 you chirped 3rd? And you race with the AC on? Don't you know that AC takes away power?
oops, just reread, you didn't know the ac was on right?

Yea, its lots of fun, just watch out for them piggies A lot of my freinds go almost every weekend around here. I go with them every once in a while. Sometimes I take the Grand Am instead of riding with them. It may be a slow *** car but it has killed its share of riced out civics. Or sometimes we take out my firebird that (even with the bad tranny) runs 15.7 with light bolt ons on the 2.8. Yea, we take it out an kill anything on four wheels. (sorry, i just had to add this last part in tribute to our good buddy Camaro_1989_19..........may he never return)

LS1 cars actually disengage the compressor at WOT so they can race with the a/c on.
It's Camaro_1986_19, I know because I used to do a search with his name when I needed a good laugh.

I have a question 90Iroc-Zee, you kept saying you like to see what you can beat and you can run with, and you never raced. What mods do you have done to it???
Oh ya, I shirp 3rd all the time on the 275 DRs, it all depends on how you shift. If I powershift it, I can break the tires loose a little!!!

Chirping 3rd isn't too big of a deal. Every 5-speed vehicle can chirp second, why can't a muscle car chirp 3rd. I can get the tires loose (spinning) in 3rd when I powershift, and they chirp everytime I get on it shifting into 3rd!

Car: 91 firebird now

I have a question , how do you make a burn out? hold the e brake? or have some soft of brake instaled to stop the front wheels and let the back spin? I have never tried it yet and I was just wondering how you did it, I know this may sound like a dumb
question. I am just very new to driving a car to its limits, I my self am yet to buy my trans am this month, but I think holding the brake and pushing the gas at the same time while letting out the clutch slowly would work. soo any info would be helpful I am just very very curious. thanks in advance

Think about it this way, I was a VERY inexperienced driver since that run. My car should trap 101-102 next time out. And your ported plenum is about the same as the Cobra intake, not much better than stock!!! I also run at 1000' elevation if that makes a difference, and have no second gear traction, HEHEHEHE!!!

90IrocZee,
Sometimes its fun to roll with the NOS express guys down in Orland. But there probably arent too many cars in your league down there. Most are pretty fast. If you are looking for some races that you'll be more competitive in you may want to head up to Naperville or Schaumburg.
PM me if you are interested in Naperville.
Ive got the slowest car in my crew or I'd set something up with one of us (WSR)

Basically you hold the brakes and you accelerate until your rear wheels overpower the brakes, but the fronts still hold. Of course in a manual you can just jump off the clutch while mashing the accelerator to peel out. But, obviously, neither is something you want to do every day.
Also, you can just jam on the accelerator if either your engine is powerful enough or your tires are sucky enough, like mine. Esp. with wet ground.
