2002 SS with 200 HP n20 VS 97 Supercharged Saleen
Alright, this is one race I'm going to have to record
The mechanic I'm freinds with was approached the other day by some of our local import tuners with a problem. There's a 2002 SS that claims to be spraying a 200 shot that hasn't been beaten, and I guess he's a real *** about it. They are setting up a race between the Camaro and Doug's (the mechanics) supercharged Saleen. When the guy who owned the camaro heard about it, he just laughed and said "It's just another mustang." So here's what's going on:
All I know about the Camaro is he claims to run a 200 shot.
The saleen has been completely rebuilt with forged internals for the supercharger, and it is being equiped with an alchohol system to help reduce ping so that he can run full timing. Last I checked, the Saleen was pushing around 650 from the engine. So what do you guys think? Should be a good race, hopefully I'll need someone to host a vid for me after they race.
Oh, and just for fun one of the other mechanics is taking his replica 427 cobra

I have seen the dyno sheet of an Ls1 spraying a 150 shot. Let's just say the numbers were impressive! I can't remember the HP number, but it had over 600 ft-lbs or torque! Stock LS1 with a 150!!
Then the owner blew the rear end up and took the Nitrous out and started doing motor mods like LT's and exhaust.
Anyway, i say toss some slicks on the Saleen and watch out.
But what happens when the bottle is empty?

Yah, he has his saleen pretty well done. He's a HUGE ford guy, having owned over 100 mustangs I believe. He curently owns a 69 fastback(I think), a 70 Mach 1, an 03 Cobra, and his Saleen. He also has a new Mach 1 on order from the dealer, but he doesn't know if he's going to pick it up yet.

Yah, me too. Guess it just goes to show you being a mechanic isn't too bad at all His shop is ALWAYS packed, but he does good work and is honest, so he deserves it.

If that SS is spraying a 200 shot than his engine is probably not stock, unless the guys an idiot. Tell your mechanic friend to be careful about the guy cuz a 200 shot on a probably modded LS1 is scary. Thats why he hasn't lost yet. Good luck to your mechanic friend.

If that guy has a 200 shot he is crazy. My friend had a ProCharger on his LS1, and with only 430 rwhp, the motor blew. A 200 shot would destroy that LS1!!! 650 hp, and some traction is about a low 10!!! This may sound biased, but a 320+200=520hp, the mustang said 650, I say the Mustang wins. These are assuming the Camaro is stock otherwise!

I'll be honest, unless the Mustang was dynoed or ran a mph indicative of 650hp, I would put my money on the Camaro - and I will explain why:
With a small minor bolt-ons, the Camaro should be running 13.0 (or better) at about 108mph, definitely not gonna win.
But if he squirts an extra 200hp NOS and it picks up 15-16mph, it will run in the low 11's with decent traction, possibly faster.
You didn't mention if the car was an auto or 6 speed (Camaro), but there is a guy around here with a 1999 Vette with a 2800 stall, drag radials, and 150hp NOS and runs consistent 11.5 at 120+mph and beyond mybe an air box, the motor is stock. So imagine a car with another 50hp and some bolt-ons, gonna move very well.
As for the Mustang, 650hp is nice (if it really has it), but he will have to be a true pro to launch on a supercharger with that much power without killing the tires. The Camaro can launch on the motor (and not spin) and then goose the NOS, the Mustang can only hope to run him down. Typically a car has to be a lot faster to make up a bad start (usually a second or more faster).

Well, I know Doug knows how to launch. He took his 03 Cobra to the track and ran 13.43, 13.44, and 13.46 with 60 ft times in the 1.7? range, and of course it's a manual. If you altitude correct that (our track is at 4500 ft) that's somewhere in the 12's, and his Saleen is faster then his Cobra. So it should be a good race

If that Mustang is indeed making 650 hp, he should be in the low 10's @ 130+ mph (sea level) given the typical weight of the GT's. There's an LS1 around here with a few minor bolt-ons and a pretty big shot of N2O running in that same ET range, so I think it'll come down to whoever comes out the hole the hardest.

a buddy of mine has a 98 vette with an automatic. he had a fuel press regulator, mass airflow sensor, K&Ns and a 200 horse shot of N20. launching on the bottle with slicks gave him a 10.93 at 134 mph. the motor blew up later but he did get gm to give him a new one under warranty.

As for what his timeslip should be, at our altitude and in the middle of 90* weather, 13.4 is pretty good. Altitude corrected his et is 12.65, does that make more sense?

Does your buddy own a speed shop (works on only motor sport cars)?? My moms b/f went to pick up his 69' RS w/700hp and a 200 shot of nitrous and all they had was nice cars, including a 2000 Cobra R. They were putting a full exhaust on it and i was pleading that they would start it up for me but it was their customers car ;(

His shop works on all kinds of cars, but him and one of the other guys there specialize in sports cars. They built the 427 cobra together, and they re-did Doug's Saleen together as well.
He is a pretty impressive driver. His reaction times were all below the .550 range, but unfortunately he was edged out of the running by a guy who lucked out on a perfect light.

So yah, sorry I didn't make myself more clear on that. He also re-did the exhaust and put in an x-pipe and some 4 inch tips. They look pretty bad-***, almost like they should be what the car comes with stock.

Edit: Sorry I didn't see that he had 4" tips. Sorry I believe it now. Holy crap wonder what the numbers those gave him!? :hail:

lol I just said he had 4" tips because I thought they looked really good on the car, not because I thought they increased performance. lol Thanks for basically calling me a *****
And like I said, his cobra isn't stock. I just don't remember what else specifically he has done, but I think it might have also included a pulley change and other stuff. His mph was 106.
Yah, I know it sounds slow, but remember our altitude is killer. One of the guys I cruise with has a 97 firebird with CAI, K&N, and other minor mods, and his personal best timeslip is 15.1 at around 95. He went to Iowa or some state to visit family, and ran a 14.3 at their track.
Didn't mean to be an ***, you just caught me on a bad day. Sorry

***UPDATE***
Alright, I'm pretty pissed. The race ended up being on Sat, not Fri, and here's what went down.
Everyone shows up at 8, about 75 people. Doug has his Saleen, and two of his buddies brought their 427 cobras. One has a 460 Ford crate engine, the other was supercharged, but I'm getting off topic.
We waited an HOUR AND FIFTEEN minutes for this guy to show. They kept calling him, and he kept saying he was on his way, he had just picked up some slicks etc. etc. Finall, he shows up with a viper behind him, but he has a 94ish camaro, not an 02. They come roaring into the parking lot, sounding pretty good. The driver of the viper comes over to check out Doug's engine. He says that the camaro can beat his viper pretty good. Then he looks at Doug's engine, says "Holy s@#t!" And walks off. All the while the guy in the camaro is sitting in his car, working on his laptop. Finally he says he's ready to go run, he just has to make a couple of adjustments. He won't let ANYONE look at his engine.
We drive to one of the local racing spots, and the camaro does a quick run. Sounded good, looked pretty fast. Doug lines up his saleen to do a quick run, sounded good, looked really fast. Then the camaro driver kind of farts around for a while, and won't line em up.
Finally, they line em up, (this part really pisses me off) and the camaro driver LEAVES HIS CAR, AND GOES TO TALK TO PEOPLE IN THE CROWD. We were trying to figure out WTF he was doing, but we couldn't find him. Finally, after another 15 minutes the cops show up, and they camaro guy comes back to his car, and they don't get to run em.
Let me just tell you, that camaro driver was an ***. It was blatantly obvious he was stalling, and I wouldn't be suprised if he called the cops himself. He wasted everyones time, and made us F-bodys look bad. It wasn't even a race for money, so I don't know why he didn't just run.
So there you go. It was a lot of hype, the guy turned out to be a d!ck, and it was a waste of a night.

Sounds like it was a bad *** scene! Wish I could have been there. Too bad it never went down. And the street really isn't a place to be running cars with that kind of power. This is one time I will say take them to the strip. The strip is made for fast cars, the streets belong to the Honda's.

best part of the whole story, the guy w/ the viper saying " holy sh*t!", that must have been funny. esp, since the dick w/ the camaro thinks he's bad shight, and even his buddy is impressed. aparently the camaro knew he would of been wasted and didnt want to get humiliated in front of everyone. to keep his " i own everyone ego " cuz if anyone can beat u...and trust me, someone can beat you...no matter if you are john force. I love it when dicks get made fun of. i really wish i was there, just to slap the guy in the face for wasting everyones time and being a real A$$ Hole about it. i cant stand people like that. if u think ur big and bad...prove it. if not, just leave people alone.
that's all...lil disappointed from not being able to hear about the race it self.
