Firehawk or Cobra R??

A new poll- inspired by the "ZR1 or 03 Cobra.
The performance of thses 2 is very close and they
were both raced.

Would you rather have a 91-92 Firehawk (with a
350hp 350, 366 unknown hp or 383, unknown hp)

or

2000 Mustang Cobra R?
5.4 DOHC 32 valve 385hp.

The Cobra is totally stripped down, unlike the Firehawk.

I'll take the 'Hawk.

The Firehawk

I would get it for a couple of reasons. First of all I like the looks better than the mustang and too many people where I live have stangs. I would also get it for the sleeper effect unless it has done exterior modifications(never seen one). Eventhough the mustang might be faster cuz of technology there might be more potential out of a 383.
You said that they were both raced. Who won the shootout?

I meant raced as in a racing series- unfortunately not a shoot out magazine test.

I would take the Cobra R it is much rarer and would really increase in value. Plus it is really quick.

How is the cobra R more rare? I thought they made like 300 of them(I could be wrong). There were only 8 firehawks in 91 and 17 in 92. I would definately take the firehawk!

The thirdgen Firehawks were definately some of the coolest F-bods or muscle cars for that matter ever made.

and for mustang 5L5 they were like factory backed race cars. Some came with all-aluminum 350's (some say they were actually 366's) There was some 383's made. They are all numbered. The last onemade (#27) was the only convertible and the only Trans Am. All the others were based on Formula's. THe T/A came with its factory roll cage and all the other options like -point harnesses. Very cool cars.

If I was spending the money, it wouldn't be either of those I chose, but I'd gladly take either one of them if they were given to me. If I could only have one or the other...I'd take the Cobra R and slap a turbo on it.

After seeing that picture... FIREHAWK! I see regular GT Mustangs around here all the time with the Cobra R front end anyway. Plus, aren't they only like a tenth faster in the 1/4 mile than the new 2003 Cobra's? I remember hearing that. That Firehawk is nuts and rare and FAST!!!

The 2000 Cobra R was a huge dissappointment IMO. The FR500 is far and away a cooler car and should have gone into production (would have been cheaper than the Cobra R too).

That is a good price considering rarity and the fact that a baseline one cost like $40K

That car is nuts. They stretched the wheel base, lowered it, added insane HP, body kit, etc. All because they wanted to know what a car with unlimited budget would be like if they through the SVT catalog at it. Oh, to be one of those lucky engineers.

I'd take the FR500 over any car on the road today outside of a Ferrari 360 Modena.

The Cobra R isn't much of a drag car. Stiff suspensions + 18" tires = poor 60' times. I'd probably put my money on the Firehawk in a straight line and the Cobra R in the twisties.

Firehawks aren't so bad in corners either

I watched C&D on TV reviewing the Cobra (03 blown)
Coleti was quoted as saying they wanted to do
naturally aspirated but weren't satisfied with
the power- maybe there is a reason why the FR500's
5.0 didn't make the cut?

The FR500 made 400 hp naturally aspirated. What they were looking for was more low-end though, and I'm sure it couldn't compete with the roots blown 4.6 in the '03 in that respect.

Firehawk

2 reasons:

1. I know it's been said before but i will say it again, it took Ford to put a supercharger on a motor to run with GM's. J/k i think the new cobra's are sweet anyway, and i like mustangs, nothin agaisn't them that's for sure.

2. But I like Bird's and Maro's more

The firehawk was a 13 second car. The new ones are about the same (Except for the freaks in the high 12's ) The cobra R I heard is a 12 second car even though it wasn't made for the straight line. The cobra R is a beast!

The firehawk , Hands down. A guy here locally has one (red w/ slp intake and headers along with so much stuff its rediculous from the factory ) anyway he brought it once to the drags and on street tires granny shifting the 6 speed and burning the hoops through the 60 foot mark he ran a 13.0!!!!
