What kinda cars will I be abel to beat

I am putting a 350 in my car out of a 1984 fullsize truck, but the motor is a fresh GM goodwrench motor less than 10,000 on it. I am keepin the stock rearend in it for now <2.8 rearend>. So i was wonderin what kind of cars will I be abeal to beat or keep up with and what kinds of mods would make this thing fast. Oh yeah it has a 4bbl quadjet carb on it.

I'll give this a shot......

OK, let's say your car weighs 3200 with you in it. And the 350 has at least 180 hp. 15.2-15.9 1/4 mile is my guess. I'm probably wrong on several points but that will be pretty close. Find out some more info.
If you're good with the pedals, you can snap off of the redlight better than faster cars. Trust me, I know.

The GM Goodwrench engine is a 250 HP unit right out of the crate. Along with the 3.42 gears you probably have, you should do quite well (assuming you get traction ). Still no Mustang killer though But enough to take out the 90% of the 305's out there!

if its the gm goodwrench motor it either has 230 horsepower if its an older one or 250 for the newer ones. with 8.5:1 compression and .39 lift on the intake, 300 horsepower seems a little high. now the older 350HO motors were 300 horsepower a couple years ago before they started using vortec heads.

230-250??

Alright...Sounds like a 14 second car to me. You can work wonders with that. Only thing is...What's the amount of torque on that? 300+? Sounds like a tire-frier.

True, but it's going in a full-size truck and not a car. Weight will hurt it.

I'm putting about 250HP+ and 325TQ out and weigh 3200 pounds and am posting 98MPH traps in the mid/ low 14's.

I have the same engine. 250HP.

Oh and 3:42s will hurt you. My 3:73s are killing me. It has a 390/410 lift cam that stops power past 3500rpms so as you can see low gears don't help.

I run 15.32 in the 1/4 with a slipping tranny with my current setup. Possibly a very high 14 with a proper shifting tranny. A cam/intake swap should be good for low 14s for me.

take your 350 and before you put it in do the following:
sliv o lite keith black .030 over flat top pistons with about a 10:9:1
port and polish heads
comp cams roller rockers
comp cams 305H cam
comp cams hydralic lifters
comp cams roller timing chain
comp cams guide plates
comp cames 5/16 push rods
weiland stealth intake manifold
holley 600 cfm double pumper with MECHANICAL secondaries
and hooker, slp, headmann shorty 3/8 headers 3 inch pipe gutted cat flowmaster 80 series with dual 2.5 inch tips

will run you 1500-2000 and put out aprox. 400 hp no idea on torque and also you will need a good RAM or brute clutch/b&m 3000 torque converter and a 3.73 or a 4.10 rearend (4.10 for 1/8th 3.73 for 1/4 and street car) you will have a mustang killing street/stripper........than again you could go all out, crane everything, roller everything, .060 over ross pistons, alum heads, dual holleys, but that gets expensive

I'd change the cam and port the heads. Is a DP really necessary?

I'd get some Hooker headers or SLP if youhave the money. And a Hooker/Flowmaster cat-back.
With a cam change I'd stay with the 3:42s for the time being.

if you really want to go all out bore it .090 over, that will really have the power levels up
why would you bore a virgin engine .060 over? you dont just bore an engine for power upgrades. "hey i am tired of this 305s low output, i know i will just bore it .060 over

I believe the headers are around $350, be sure they have AIR hookups if emissions are a problem. I got the $200 cat-back but needed some fab work to fit on my car. They sell $260 ones if that's the one you need.

I didnt mean just the boring would give major power increases, the boring, porting polishing, headwork, ect. ect. it what will make a engine produce power..but the boring does give the ci's

the formula for the ci's of a engine is pi x bore x bore x stroke x 2

a stock 350 has a bore of 4.00 and a stroke of 3.48 so
3.14 x 4.00 x 4.00 x 3.48 x 2 =
349.6704 or 350

if you bore it .030 over you get 3.14 x 4.030 x 4.030 x 3.48 x 2 = 354.935 or 355

.060 over gives you a 360.2391 or a 360

take 2 stock 350's bore one .060 over the other none give them the same cam, exaust, headwork, ect. ect. and dyno them to see which one gives the most hp and torque numbers, drop the 4.00 bore one in a car and take it down the track replace it with the 4.060 one take it down the track and see which one has the time

right now??? last run on my G-tech was a 16.4 at 90mph... est 0-60 was around 8.5... temps where in the around 95-105 at about 2500ft

that was with my RX-7

had a lot of issues on that run
oil was last changed about 8 months prior to that and about 6000 miles (rotary needs fresh oil), had somewhat of a bog on the launch, there was an intake leak, plugs where dirty, have a bad plug wire, exhuast leak, injectors need cleaned, stuff like that...

since then I have changed my oil... about time.... cleaned the plugs ( no job so can't replace them yet at 7.50 a plug and I need 4), and ran some intake cleaner and ATF through the motor to help break up the carbon a little bit.

since then I haven't done a G-tech run but 0-60 was at 7 flat... with lots of spin but no bog temp was at 107*

getting rid of the exhuast leak and intake leak this week, and changing out my coolant also,

all in all if I get everything working right I should be running low 15 high 14 after everything gets done.... just car has been sitting and a few things kinda went down on my so it is taking a while

but then again I am really debating going back to the turbo route

just need the money once again
