If I remember correctly they run about a mid 12 at sea-level via the ever-so-popular 4G63 (DOHC 2.0 Litre Turbo), backed up with a bigger turbo (than the eclipse's old 14b or T-25) and a front mount intercooler. That is the Lancer Evolution VII

I thought that the Lancer being sold now was just a renamed Galant or something. Don't really know though. Oh, and I don't think anything has ever been banned from the US for being too fast. Maybe not meeting safety or emissions requirements, but not for being too fast.

From what I hear, they're bringing the Evo over here! It's one bad *** car. I think it's rated at 276 hp, AWD. 0 to 60 I heard people getting high 4's on. But it is a mitsubishi, who knows about the reliability!

Back in 1991 to 1992 they sent 3000 (2000 in '91 and 1000 in '92) Galant VR-4's to America with the same 4G63 a 14b turbo air to air intercooler and all wheel drive. The only difference with this Galant and a first generation Eclipse GSX, besides the body, is all wheel steering put only in the Galants (only active above 30 m.p.h.). So the Lancer has been hopped up quite a considerable amount over the stock Galant VR-4
Here is a '92 GVR-4:

the "Lancer" we've got now in the states is a PIECE OF CRAP. It's like 120hp FWD. The Lancer that everyone thinks about when you say "Lancer" is like 300hp AWD turbo.. pretty cool. That won't be coming to the states for a little while, and when it does, it'll be called the Lancer EVO VII. If they bring the whole package over, watch out for it, and the WRX STI coming out within a year from now. Both about equivalent power numbers.

The Lancer was banned because it was too fast? I thought it was banned because it couldn't pass our safety and emmissions standards?

most of the time they won't send us the phat turbo cars like the REAL lancer and the nissan skyline, b/c they don't want to have to convert it so it can drive on the right side of the road. i have seen companies out there now though that will have them imported overseas, or if you are in the military and are stationed in japan, then you can sometimes have one shipped over.

i dont know about safety standards, but i believe that japan's emissions standards are stricter than ours, and they try to restrict cid's, that's why we get vtec's and turbos from them.

the lancers we see on the street right now are jokes. you'll easily smoke them.

some of the best sports cars dont make it to the us ... such a shame .... skylines, silvias, EVO's ... hell even some cars from europe rally racing i wouldn't mind owning ... corolla wrc, cosworth escort. we actually have a few skylines here in hawaii now. they were imported through motowerx (or something) and have been converted to left hand drive. but for me personally i dig alot of japan's luxury cars the most. VIP style is so cool.

We get all the good ones over here.. Cosworths, EVO IV, V, VI and the latest VII's. We get the special Tommi Makkinen Evo's and Pro Drive that prepare the Subaru WRX STI rally cars are based about 40 mins away from me

They are serious bits of kit. Any car that comes from the factory with Brembo brakes are meant for business...

We will get a Lancer that is turbo and all wheel drive but not the one that Japan has. The Japanese one has over 300 hp but is only rated at 276. I think the one we will get is rated at about 250 or so.

Sorry but other countries have stricer emissions then us.. Japan being one of them. they did not come over because of the high taxation. BUT IF you brought a Japanesse EVO VII over.. your 350 TPI is nothing.. they rujn quick.. I MEAN QUICK Low 13's STOCK. Last I remember they had 325/300. In a lighter car, with less drag and AWD. Your 350 better have NOS.... at the very least.

And yes they are HIGHLY restricted to CID/Vehicle weight. They are also limited to 60-70K engine life too. Thats to keep the emissions down. When I was in FLA in the Navy, a guy had just come back from Hasuka(Spelling) with an EVO VII. Went for a ride.. 6 speed, upgraded turbo/intercooler. got next to a 95/96 vette. Reved. Vette revved. Vette did not know what the hell happened. I think he barely got to see tail lights. 0-60.. what? try timing 0-100....

Yes those Evo's are nuts...anyone seen Jackie Chan's movie Who Am I? In there they have an Evo V or VI I'm can't remember and the car chase scene is crazy, the movie is worth that scene. The older Japanese Lancer Evolutions are have basically the same body style as our U.S. Mitsu Mirage....but the resemblence ends there. The Lancer we have now was suppose to be a replacement for the Mirage as it has done so in Japan althuogh in Japan its always been a Lancer....just that for some reason we still have a Mirage and a Lancer. Sadly the Lancer Evolution we get here in the states will be about 20hp less than the Japanese spec Lancer Evo....and I heard that by the time we get the Evo VII Japane will almost unveil the Evo VIII for the Japanese Market. Those cars eat and spit out just about anything they come up against and they're well rounded, considering they're all wheel drive, that's why they're excellent rally cars.

I dont think a 350 would need Nitrous to go 13s. My combo with better heads, and tires would go low 13s high 12s. I agree that they are quick, but not the be all and end all!

No, Not really, If a soldier buys a foreign car like the EVO VII he or she would have to meet ameriacan government emission stadards and we already know the car will not pass as is. So we have to pay to make those changes.

The EVO VII is a bad car dude!!!! Pound for pound.

When I was in still in JAX(Jacksonville) Fla a guy had just come back from Hasuka(spelling?) and he brought a EVO VII with him... He had it tested and it passed by more then half the US alloted amount(for the Us version Mirage). And that was with some serious mods too. He said he paid around 18K US for the car NEW. After getting inspected and plates went and found a 95/96 Vette and laid it to waste like it was a Yugo!...
