92 Z28, the govern speed?
Im not sure what its called, i believe a govern or governer or something like that, that wont let you go past a certain speed. does anyone no what the limit is for a 92 z28 with a 350 TPI? and is there a way to get rid of the govern thing? and does it cost alot to take in and have it taken out or is it something you can do on your own?

All ThirdGens have a programmed fuel injector pulse cutoff at a given VSS speed. Cars that were not equipped with 'Z' rated tires had the fuel cutoff somewhere around 118 MPH, but that may vary slightly across the years. Since the ECM calibration requires SOMETHING in that data field, cars that were equipped with 'Z' tires were programmed at 255 MPH. This is the maximum value that can be programmed in 8-bit binary format, or the CPU's operating language. (And before all the tuners get involved, I understand that the ROMs are written in hexadecimal to conserve address space, but the CPU can only switch ones and zeroes - AND, NAND, OR, and NOR gates don't like anything else.)
So in essence, all cars have the fuel cutoff programming, but some just have an almost impossibly high speed number, so they are virtually non-governed.

like I said the Z converts (with automatic)had the governor because they came with H rated tires. Also, the speeds did differ, my '92 Camaro suts off at 112, and my buddy's 92 Bird shuts off at 120. Mine is an auto, his is a 5-speed. Maybe the Z-28's with a convert and 5-speed(if they made them?) had a higher governor, but I'd suspect it is between 110-120mph unless the car came with the Z-rated tires of course. Even the LT1 cars with the 110mph and convert were governed at 110.

programming removes it. as for the car in question, all 5.7 cars were equipped with the z rated tires on third gens so it shouldn't have a speed limiter.
