WorldHeads + CompCam

WorldHeads + CompCam
My friend has a 89 305 5 spd. He's going to throw on World Product S/R Torquers (305) and use a compcams cam with these specs: 275, 290 @.050 220, 230 .510 lift (1.5r) 114'
He has ram air, siamised intake, and can burn his own chips.
Is this to much cam for his engine?
He wants a nice idle with a little lop and doesnt want to wreck the daily driveability of his car.

Well, since he can burn chips (I'm assuming TPI), has a manual tranny, a wide separation angle, is getting better heads (assuming the springs can handle the lift that is), has a better intake than stock, etc... I think it'll be OK for daily driving. Hope he has the exhaust done too. Also hope he uses premium.

Yes he has a full exhaust system for headers to tail pipe.
Mkos 1980 did your friend do any mods to his chip?
Anyone else have this combo or something similar with better results?
Also he has 3.42 gears.

That's probably a little much for the TPI intake and street car. I run a 214/220 ~.5" lift cam with a siamesed base in a 305 tpi picked up only .2 sec, but I'm sure chip tuning will help greatly.
14.6 at 96 before cam 14.4 at 96.8 after +3 mph and -.3 sec in 1/8 mile.

Tell him to phone Comp on their 1-800 number and they will tell him the correct cam for his setup. Take their advice!!!

I believe the stock '89 cam is 207/213 and about .42/.43" lift. Calling comp cams will probably set you up with a cam with less duration than stock. Still think that cam would be better suited to a miniram or carbed intake manifold though and would be hurting big time on the low end. With my crane 2032 cam 214/220, there is some loss of power below 1500 rpm, but it's not bad. I drive my car everyday in stop and go traffic.

89 5 speed tpi or tbi? and if it's a tpi, is it a g92 car? i also agree, he's wasting his time with a cam that big without some other major work.

No man I'm planning on goin on April 26th cause that's the next open track date. So I can let u know then.
Plus I gotta mess around with the A/F ratio cause it's wayyy off
And theres more open track dates this season, so I'll do more mods each time and we'll see the differences!
Oh yeah and it did wake up the TBI engine. I can pull all the way to 6500rpm. I do have full MSD ignition too.

Zippy it is a TPI but not a G92 (he put in a 95 TA rear in)
Ok so its to much cam for his setup but what specs should he be looking for in a cam?
His car has lots of pull to around 5500 rpm with his modified TPI.
