How much base timing with new cam???

I have a camaro RS that I'm selling to a teenager. The car is a 305 TBI with some mods, including a hotter cam, but does have the stock chip. I currently run 12* BTDC initial timing advance, but I use only super unleaded, and the car is free of major carbon deposits. I also have a cool fan switch, new radiator, and a cold thermostat. I am going to de-tune the car before I sell it so this guy doesn't blow it up by lack of care and maintenance, and by flooring it on a hot summer's day with cheap gas in it. What is the stock base timing on the TBI cars, is it 0*TDC??? Also, what are the TPI cars, 6*???

The car has the same cam grind as an 89 350TPI, so do I want to set it like a stock 350 TPI??? What would you all recommend, I have used nothing but superunleaded, but I bet this guy will use the cheap stuff. Thanks!

TBI,

Stock TBI base is 0°, TPI is 6° BTDC. I'd keep it closer to the 0-end of the range.

Is the ESC still working on the engine? If so, knock retard should take care of most "operating retards" who ignore maintenance, and buy fuel based on price rather than octane.

Are you going to tell the buyer that is is de-tuned, and that more performance can be gained if it is re-tuned and run with 93+?

Thanks Vader. Hey I thought there was rule about advance with a cam though??? I thought if you put in a cam with more duration, that you had to advance the timing? Oh to answer your question, yes, I will tell him, but I'm sure he doesn't work on cars so it probably won't matter. I have babied this car. I intend to write out my recommended maintenance schedule and what lubricants I used in the car so maybe he will follow it. I figure I will de-tune it, and he will just drive this **** out of it and as long as he changes the oil it will last. Not like me though, LOL, I even change the PCV and grease the chassis on a regular interval. So if I run like a 4* advance, and tell him to run super, but at the minimum, run unleaded plus.

While we are on the topic, do you think that about 10* would be okay for my GTA? More or less???
