where can i get more info on how to hook up an inline switch on the vss. where is the vss located? I have an 86 Iroc-Z 305 tpi. I always thought my speedo was cable driven. But I wold really love to get that limiter to dissable. Those rustangs don't have it And it sucks when they fly by cause i can't go any faster! I'm on a low budget so the in-line switch sounds like the cheapest way to go.

all you need is an on off switch and some wire. it is located on the left rear of the tranny. you'll see a big round thing with two wires plugged into it. all you do is cut the positive wire and splice in the switch. you can do it at the ecm under the dash so you wouldn't need to run wires outside the car. but you'll need a wiring diagram to figure out which one to cut. i have a diagram at work. if i remember i'll look at it tomorrow. i have an '86 ta. so should be same pin location.

Is this car a 5 Speed or a 700R4?
On the 700R4 there will be a plug with 3 wires in it. One of these will need to be switched. Problem is I'm not for sure which one.
Try the tranny boards, or do a search.

The VSS on a cable speedo car is behind the dash, Not on the tranny. The VSS is right behind the speedo on the guage cluster.

Might just need a tuneup, or something along those lines. My 86 would run around 130-135 stock. Every 86 chip I have seen (and 87's) have no limiter really, its set to 254MPH. Or maybe you arent in overdrive? That might do it too, 110 might be about right for third wound out.

can't be 3rd wound out....about 3500 rpm... sombody told me that the vss also controles the tcc. so if i put in a switch it won't lock in and i'll right off the trany. Could that be true?

I am by no means an authority on this subject but my experience with two different chips was a cut-off at 135mph with a hypertech chip in and with the stock chip a cut-off of 120mph. Just to be sure i kept on it and the same thing happened every time 135 or 120 it just cut out for a few seconds and dropped down about five mph, did it about 4 or 5 times before i finally slowed down. Anyone know for sure??

Hey man, I believe its the brown wire you need to put a switch on.
You are right, the Vss does control the TC lock-up, but that is not going to help you. I thought there was no speed limiter on pre 87 cars, but I'm not sure. Who knows, your car could have alot of parts that were not originaly on the car.
You see, I have a 86 IROC, but it's not computer controlled anymore. But, most of the wires are still there, so maybe I can help you out that way. I just know that I can zoom all the way up to 140 if I please.
