engine buildup suggestions
heres my ideas:
383 shortblock
vortec heads
600 CFM carb
vortech centrifugal carburetor supercharger
now with the shortblock, do i need a forged crank and pistons with only a lite amount of boost (maybe 5 psi)?
how do the heads sound
i know they are not THE best, but they are pretty good and are economical
carb is prolly a little too small
what problems/ situations might i be looking at with this buildup?
all computer controls are removed
and all smog is removed
what do you think i would run with this setup?

You need a forged crank & pistons unless you want to be rebuilding it with the slightest amount of detonation.
I dont know much about those superchargers so i wont comment on them.
You are lookin at a very unrealistic setup IMO.....that carb for that blower must be alot of $$$$.
Save your $.....build a 383 with flat-tops....put on some AFR heads, an RPM dual plane intake, 700 cfm carb, a nice CompXE274, an "up to par" ignition system, some roller rockers, and i think you could make a good, safe 425-450HP.
Good Luck.

ok thanx
the only reason i am considering a 383 is because i found 383 shortblocks for about $1300
i guess i wouldnt mind ditching the supercharger and running higher compression..............
i guess i really should call this place up that sells the engines and ask what kinda pistons are in them so i can figure out the compresssion ratio........i should also find out if it has a forged bottom end

If the pistons are at least hyperuetectic (sp), you may be ok. I don't know if I'd want to run them with a blower, though. Also, I think that blower will be moving more air than the little 600 can handle. I would go to a 750. I have vortecs on a 350, and I love them so far. I don't know much about the cranks. I've heard of people making crazy power with a cast crank, but I don't know how long it will hold out. Probably not long. Now that I think about it, with the added stress of the longer stroke, I would go for the forged crank. I don't see any other problems with that combo. Let us know what kind of power it makes.

Vortec's are great flowingnheads for the money. Just prot them and they open up alot more. I agree the supercharger is a mistake. I am thinking of makeing a similar engine and agree bump up the compression, and run it naturally aspirated.

i do suppose the supercharger mite be a little bit much........
what about with a a forged bottom end though?
its obviously not going to be a daily driver.......
now that i realized that my job is going to be paying me alot better, i think i can upgrade a little bit here........
383, forged bottom end
Air Flow Research heads
some sort of roller rockers
wild cam
750 CFM carb
maybe the supercharger
ok guys.........with that all said what kinda cam would you recommend
i kinda am dreaming here, but with my new job and pay, i can pull all this off
what kinda power do you think i will make with this setup with the super? without?
anybody wanna plug this into desktop dyno for me?
i really appreciate all the help guys
