Help with cooling fan ????

I have an 86 T/A 305 Carb. stock and I am having trouble with the electric cooling fan. I pulled the fan and direct wired motor to a battery and the motor is working fine. Put it back in and it doesn't work, so I replaced the relay and it didn't help, replaced the two sensors( electric and vacum) on the thermostat housing and still no fan. I am told it is supposed to come on at around 210 degrees. anyone else had this problem? Any advice?

There is a temperature sensor in the right cylinder head that should control the fan relay. It should have a single dark green wire on it.

Couldn't he unhook that sensor from the harness, and put a jumper wire between the sensor's harness connector and ground? If the fan comes on then, that fan switch has got to be bad. Right?

i have the same problem for my 86 z28 with 305 4bbl. vin g i replaced the same on the thermostat housing and it still overheats so i looked for the switch right above the starter but was told it was a knock sensor

If it has a dark green wire going to it, it is the thermostatic fan switch. Just take it out and if water comes out of the hole it isn't a knock sensor

Hey Vader, found the temp switch on the head, bought a new one. Question though? the switch has a hole in the top that looks like it will accept the lone green wire, but is the wire just pushed into the hole and it will stay put,as it looks like that is the only way to connect it, correct??? won't it pull out?? mine is out right now, undoubtably the problem. so I just wonder about the connection........

Stock fan turn on temp for an 86 T/A is 234°. If you have the upgraded PROM (you do don't you????) the temp is lower. Check with VADER for details.
