305 Questions

I don't know if I am doing this right. I am ready to take all the heat you all give. My son and I were given a '84 trans am L69 I think, 305 with the 700r transmission with a really good body. It had set for 4 years and had a craked exhaust manifold I was told. I have heddman shorts as a replacement. We did what was necessary to get it running (change oil, new plugs and wires, carb rebuilt by someone else (mechanic) fuel tank taken off and cleaned new in tank fuel pump). The car ran ok, but the 4bbl didn't seem as if it was opening choke never worked right 2 days in a row and the air pump was locked up. I threw the alt belt one day, engine overheated and I spun 2 rod bearings. I decided while the block and heads were being done we would take the engine off the computer when we put it back in. Here is what I have bought but have yet to install, the eldebrock performer Intake, non erg, carb and cam package. I now know I need a different distribitor. and have to do the lock up switch mod. for the transmission. I have no problem with returning the parts and paying the restocking charge if needed. I don't have to worry about emmisions and would like to have this set up to use in anything I might acquire in the future (old truck or rod). There you go let me have it. Is this realistic? Thanks for bein' here.

Sounds like a good combination, the performer cam and intake work very nice. I had them in a 4x4 chevy with a 350 and was very happy with the performance.
Since you have it apart, you might want to at the very least, port match the heads and smooth the surface of the runners.
Five7kid suggested to me that I have the intake valves enlarged to the 1.94 size. I plan to take his advice.
