Can I use roller tip rockers I got from CompCams on Vortec heads?

Can I use roller tip rockers I got from CompCams on Vortec heads? I ordered the heads the other day. Should be here Monday. I also have a CompCam XE268H with .477 .480 lifts. Will this work on the heads or do I need to get some work done to them? Thanks.

You can use the rockers if they are self alligning, or use nonSA rockers and have screw in studs and guideplates put on. That cam is borderline for stock heads, so I would take them to a machine shop and get them to do it all. That's what I'd do if I had it to do over again (and I may soon). I paid about $50 more for the SA rockers, by the way. I have a set of both because of a previous engine, so I can get the PN's if you want.

What the hell are self aligning rockers? What's the difference?
How much are they and does Summit have them?
Thanks.

The self aligning rockers have a disk-type thing on both sides of the roller tip to keep it centered over the valve tip. The hole in the head where the pushrod comes thru is a lot bigger on newer heads. That hole used to be just slightly bigger than the pushrod and it located the pushrod and rocker. I like the new design because I have one older head where one of the holes or the rocker stud is out of line and the rocker tip is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch to one side. If you don't want the SA rockers, use guideplates to take the place of the small pushrod holes.

I have a pic of my engine with the valve covers off. I'll see if I can make it where you can see what I'm talking about.

Oh, I think I paid around $200 for the SA's and $150 for nonSA's.

My rockers have a little overhang on both sides of the roller. I don't think it would slide off with those. The way they look now on the other heads I don't think I could slide them off the valve if I tried.

I tried to get the best image I could, but this is as good as it gets. I drew the alignment disks in on 2 of the valves so you can see where they are. If you use these heads with a standard rocker and no guideplates, you're taking an expensive risk. At operating speeds, the tip will move.

Do you already have the regular Comp rockers? If you do, I would go to a machine shop and have them cut for studs and guideplates, and have the valve guides cut down for extra clearance with the retainers. That is the thing that limits lift on these heads. I'm not sure about machining costs, but it shouldn't be much more than the SA rockers.

I give up on the pic file. Can't get small enuf for the server to accept it.

What do you think of your Lockright? I was thinking of getting one of the No Slips. Is it noticeable when turning in parking lots and stuff?

The lockright is pretty cool. Haven't drove around on it too much since I put it in. It does make noise but not very bad. Can hear it, that's about it. I had a T5 with it so I dind't get on it too much. I'm going back to the TH350 and will be definately testing out my line lock. Can't wait to get this motor back together.
