'83-'90 seatbelt buckles. i just got my car and I don't think the previous owner(s) got them replaced cuz the driver's side is hard to buckle.

Recalls are supposed to follow the car regardless of ownership.

If a potentially serious problem gets recalled on the car does that mean that only the original owner's life means anything?

I just went through all this with GM, turns out not all firebirds or camaros are covered under the seatbelt recall. call the dealership and ask them to run the VIN number for you, it will tell you if your car is covered.

P.S. MY CAR IS NOT (86 T-A)

Every 84-90 thirdgen is covered under the seatbelt recall, including an 86TA. The only reason they wont do it is if the 'fix' has already been done to your car in the past. The dealer has to provide proof that the 'fix' has been done to your car. If they refuse to do it, and dont provide proof, go to a different dealer and/or call PMD about it.

If the seat belt buttons look faded and oxidized, then you have one of the cars affected. I do...

Interesting, my seatbelt actually broke while I was stopping hard. I knew about the recall and when I went to the dealer to see about getting it done they said there was never a recall. I actually printed out something and they said that the "computer never lies" lol. I just paid like $2 for a spring and button and did it myself-actually better then taking it in, waiting around, and have them grease everything up.

There's different recalls too!

If you investigate the site you can find a couple of other recalls!
( Depending on the year)!

according to the sheet for the seat belt recall, they list certain vin numbers and according to that listing not all car's are involved. pretty much most of them are, but you must provide proof that yours hasn't already been done. who ever owned the vehicle when the recall came out was sent a letter, if they ignored it that is not gm's fault. if you contact them and they can give you a way to prove yours hasn't been done your gm dealer should have no reason to not perform the recall. the reason the dealer has a problem with it is they feel it should have been done along time ago and if they perform the recall without proof it has been done they can be deducted from gm for it and basicly not get paid for doing the work. they don't usually care much if they make a customer with a 10 to 20 year old car happy since it isn't likely your buying a new car any time soon. i'm not saying it shouldn't be done by the dealer, but i'm also on the other side. the dealer don't give out parts and labor and whether gm will or will not pay for a recall to be performed without proof that it is involved or has not previously been done is the problem. seat belts aren't something to mess with, if you get no where from gm, just buy them, remember you own the car, not gm. if you get somewhere with them later on the subject, they will be required to re-emberse you. it's hardly worth driving around with an inoperative seat belt because your just dying to have gm pay for it.

I'm pissed about the fuel filler neck recall. It's only for 91-92 and, of course...mine is a '90 and the damn thing is cracked and it always reeks of fuel.

NHTSA safety recalls are not something that GM has the option of doing or not doing. GM recalls can be done at their discretion because they are not life threatening. If a dealer can't prove that the seatbelt recall was done on your car then they are obligated to do it... period.

Ford and Firestone did not want to recall their tires but they were forced to. It would have been cheaper for them to pay the lawsuits than to fix the tires (that were almost bald anyway) but the NHTSA said to fix them. This all arose after Ford Pinto's started exploding...

Why do Ford's vehicles have these exploding problems?

I love to see this

Defect Summary:
FUEL FEED HOSES MAY PULL OUT OF THE CRIMPED COUPLING AT THE ENGINE END OF THE HOSE ASSEMBLY.
Consequence Summary:
IF THIS COUPLING SEPERATED, ALLOWING GASOLINE TO LEAK,AND AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.

And of course the seat belt one. had this problem on my 86 camaro and the red button release is just startting to get some whit spots.
Free repairs........Makes you want to get them doen just as a sort of payback for all those repairs youve paid for.
