cowl hood guys....gotta question
first off, moderators, please dont close this , because it actually is a tech question.
ok , im getting a 4" cowl next week. should i worry about water getting under there when it rains or i wash it? i mean, what if my engine is hot, couldnt it crack it? and what about constant water on the distributor?

I had a 4" cowl on my '85 Mustang, never ran into any problems. Oh, and I debated the cracking the block thing before, only I said you shouldn't spray cold water on a hot block if the engine is off, everyone said there's no way it would crack. I have been told other wise by my brother though.

on some of the bigger cowl hoods the back has a covering with to vents molded into it. it hard to explain. as far as the engine cracking i don't think that is posible. i have a 2 1/4 cowl and never had any problems.
P.S. post pics of your car when the cowl is on. i think it will look awsome.

Depending on what type of cowl hood you get water can be an issue. There a sevral different molds to choose from, some like the one I had on the camaro had an opening fairly close to the distributor and it worried me when the rain was pooring so I shoved a beach towl between the hood and windshield. Other more expensive hoods extend back almost to the windshield and that 4in of cowl really only gives you 1in of space for air to be sucked down but thier is less of a chance of large amounts of watter pouring in. A little water wont hurt the engine or distributior, most water droplets that make thier way to a hot engine evaporate when they reach the engine. The stock hoods dont keep all of the water out either.
