Funny Noise starting Car
Sometimes when i go to start my car when i turn the key it makes a weird nose. And it wont start. But sometimes it starts just fine. Does it have something to do with the starter? Sometimes i can start it like 6 times in a row and it wont make the noise. Then sometimes i try to start it 6 times and it makes the noise and it wont start. I cant really describve the noise. I dont think its the starter slidding. It kinda makes a whining grinding noise.
Thanks

I get the same problem sometimes when the car has been running. When I turn the key it sounds like the starter is grinding against something.

It's tough to figure out a noise without a good description of it, but I *think* one of two things are happening...either your flywheel has a spot(s) where there are no teeth on it, or your starter gear is not engaging the flywheel.

Well i dont think the flywheel is missing teeth.. Cause it randomly grindes.. Like it will start once then grind after that.. or start like 6 times and then grind.. or grind like 6 times
then start. So i dont think the flywheel has a chip in it. The starter may not be pressed against it right or be losely mounted like you said. Ill pull the starter and find out.
Thanks
