Crunched My Air Filter
This makes the second time. I cover my air filter with a plastic bag when it rains really hard because I have a cowl induction hood scoop.
The first time it happened, it was a $55 K&N...r.i.p....
Second time it was a $5 STP.
The K&N was unevenly smashed after the car ran for about 45 seconds, but not so much that it was totally useless. Bent my air cleaner up. But because of turbulence caused by uneveness, I replaced it.
The STP was smashed flat as a pancake within 5 seconds and my (new) air cleaner didn't get bent.
Well, that's my $hitty story for the day.

That suxxxx. Next time you put a plastic bag over it, put your keys in a smaller plastic bag or something so you'll remember to take it off!
Good luck in the future

I did the same thing when I was painting my truck a few years back. The new engine was in and all nice with aluminum heads and a tricked out qjet. I put a bag over the engine so I could paint the edges of the fenders and hood. Well I forgot about the bag started it up POOOOOP! There went the K&N and trahed the carb also. Your lucky your carb is still good! What I do when It rains and I cant move the camaro into the garage, I cover the cowl area with a beach towl. It does the tric but some water always gets in, which is no big deal..

LOL, I've been there...
My brother forgot to remove the plastic bag from my CJ-7's open element K&N while it was at a service being steam cleaned. The engine ran for barely a few seconds but it was enough to collapse most of the filter. It's now propped up from the inside with a circular piece of wire. Works fine too.
