a code 12 indicates the computer is active (normal), can you explain a little more about the symptoms ??

i turn the key. nothing. no solenoid click, nada. i know the starter and solenoid are good. i took it out and tested it. i ran a wire from the positive terminal on the battery to the starter where the wire from the ignition switch connects. when i tap this wire to the battery terminal (+), the engine turns over. as soon as it does, i remove the wire from the batt., and the engine will run for a second, and then dies. i thought maybe there could be a bad sensor, but you say the code 12 means the ECU is fine, correct? it cant be the ignition switch because when i turn the key, all the gauges read, as well as the radio and such. could it be either the VATS or PASS key systems, coil, distrubutor???? this one has truly got me perplexed.
