Opinions from the engine builders
Ok guys, im looking for over the year experience on bearings.
Cleavite, federal mogule, or otherwise?
So far i've spun 2 federals. And I've messed up a full set of cleavites on the bottom end, and spun the front cam bearing out the block
Whats the BEST BEARING???

I like Federal Mougul, I havent had any problems with them. It sounds like the cam bearings were installed improperly and your rod and main bearings were not the proper size. Has your crank been turned? If so how far did they take it? Anything over (20 under) is too far for my taste and most other builders. The guy who does my cranks doubles the price and cuts the warenty off for a crank that needs to be turned 30 under. What it sounds like with the cam bearings is the feed hole was not alligned with the oil passage enough and thats why that one spun. I have the maching shop install my cam bearings even though I have the tool avalible to me.

These are recommended by Smokey Yunick. They have a hardshell yet have a soft enough surface to absorb particles into the bearing, and thus save the journals. The most important thing is to get proper bearing clearances, no more than 0.003"! Also that spec is for the perpendicular center point from the parting lines of the shell. At the parting lines, there is more clearance to allow the main caps to flex, which pulls the shells into the journal and starts to scrape off the oil. Mr. Yunick also discovered this phenomina and the bearing manuf. started to create them in this fashion. Shoot for about 0.0025"
