Weiand 144 Blower on Vortec Heads

First time posting here. I have an 89 firebird that i swapped the 305 out for a 350. currently running 083 heads on it with a weiand 144 roots style blower. was thinking about getting some vortec heads but not sure what i can do to make it work with the intake i already have. Has anybody on here done this type of set up? if so what did you do to make it work.

If you wanted to run Vortecs I'd try to find an intake that will fit your blower and match the vortex heads. Otherwise it may just be easier to run a budget set of original SBC style heads.

I agree. i’m just having a tough time finding the intake that works with the blower and the heads. i thought i had read somewhere that i could use shim gaskets to align the runners..idk. this is really my first project so i’m learning on the fly

Vortecs are good budget heads, but there are also other aftermarket heads with similar price tags once you include a new intake to fit said vortecs.

I remember back when I was looking at budget SBC heads for my original TPI I was considering the World SR Torquer heads. I was also looking at some of the Edelbrock heads, but can't remember which ones exactly. I also remember looking at the Iron Eagle heads.

Combine the SR torquers with a blower friendly mild cam and off you go with a nice power bump.

Re: Weiand 144 Blower on Vortec Heads

With a blower, heads make MUCH less difference. Esp the intake side. Which is of course what the Vortec heads are good for.

FAR eeeeeezyer to get air/fuel to flow through ports when there's 3 bar pushing it, than 1 bar.

Direct your attention elsewhere for lower hanging fruit. Particularly, the exhaust side. A blower doesn't do A DAMN THING for that side. With a blower, THAT'S what needs work. Vortec heads have the same crappy exh port as any other SBC head. Not the right answer for a blower.

No you CANNOT use a "shim" gasket to put non-Vortec parts onto a Vortec head.

That's well beyond "shim".

Re: Weiand 144 Blower on Vortec Heads

Agreed. Vortec heads need crutches for the exhaust side, and with a blower you often need a split duration cam with more exhaust duration, etc.

And yeah - heads don't really matter all that much with forced induction. Increase the boost (race fuel or E85) and send it.

You would need the vortec supercharger intake, and heads,,.. at $600, its hard to justify. You'd already be at the cost of some decent aluminum heads.

Wouldnt be too expensive to change some pulleys for more boost. Or run a plate nitrous kit under the carb.
