Drip Drip Drip? Please Help

Well I finally got my water pump in today, Stewart Stage 1, Great!
As soon as I started to fill the rad back up, (without car running) I started getting a drip from the front center of the engine. It continued to drip a little faster after I started the car let warm up and finished filling, continued after I shut down and slowed down then stoped. It might be coming from the bolts but everything looks dry up top. Would the seal leak with out the car running, can water get up there while off? What else might it be?

Sounds like you didn't tighten the lower radiator hose enough. That or one of the gaskets on the pump.

When I replaced my water pump I used RTV on both seals and put some on the 4 mounting bolts just to be sure. Haven't had any leaks.

once in a while you can get a pump that the rear plate screws are not tight on this would cause a leak at any time depending on how loose the screws are. may be something to check out if you did'nt do it during the installation.

Thanks Everyone, I will check the back plate in the morning.

So it is possable for it to leak from the seals where mounts with out it being started?

Where is the freeze plug? And If it is that is it safe to drive about 10 miles?
I used sealent on the gaskets and four bolts, thats what got me, Maybe I should try tightening it more? Torked it to 30lbs maybe book is off or wrench(wonder why I didn't try that eariler?)

Anyone esle with a thought?

Drip, drip, drip...Hmmmm, theres a shot for that isn't there? Hehehe, sorry, been overseas too much I guess.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a loose hose clamp. Only leaked when it got hot though.

Freeze plugs are at the side of the engine under the exhuast manifold, but if you havent overheated or rebuilt your motor lately it probably isnt them. Doesnt hurt to check.

If you do drive it, bring a couple gannons of water, and make sure you dog doesn't lick the drive way!

Wow 100 views and 7 replies.

What would be the first thig to check if it started dripping before i started it?
Its not running down the hose and dripping, so I dont think its a lose clamp, its dripping off the front of thr engine.
I just found it weird that it dripped before I stared it, and when I look at it now no drip.

Maybe not everyone

My guess would be they either didn't know, ro are like me and like to grab as much info as possible, especialy info that could help future repairs.
I realy don't know about this one, I would have thought that after the motor got up to temp it woud turn into a nice say 19 or so psi spray, unless the leak was very small....very very small, but hell, I don't claim to know everything there is to know about these machines, I know what my experience with my car has taught me, and what reading this board has taught me
