Getting more power out of a stock 87 camero??

Hi guys, i was wonderin if u guys could help me out and maybe give me a few suggestions :-)

Im buying a stock 1987 camero in a week or so, and i need some advice on givin this baby some more power!

It comes with LG4 305 motor 4bbl all stock (probably makin only 175 hp), but its completely mint condition.

I was thinkin on addin a HO type duel ram air induction kit probably give me 10-20 hp at the most

What else could i do on a modest budget?

I was also thinkin about addin a new cam and heads, take a while to save up tho

Maybe a Comp cam and a set of Headmen EO heads :-P

Anyways any suggestions or thoughts would help a lot thx

good places to start would be exhaust system along with the dual snorkel air cleaner. assuming you are buying an automatic a shift kit would be a nice improvement also. you could give it a full tune up with maybe a new coil like hypertech or msd. unless your familier with adjusting timing, you could get a performance chip for it with a cooler thermostat. well, just some places to start.

Go to the Tech Articles. Lots of great improvements that won't break the bank.

From what I hear the lg-4's cam is a "peanut" cam (because Chevy couldn't get their emissions right, so they had to tone down their engines I think?) Either way, you'll see a huge difference by putting in a mild cam and changing the intake manifold. After that go headers and exhaust. All this can be done for under ~$800 if you do the work yourself.

I'd do a cam like 220/220 degress, it'll be lumpy but add some decent power, and some headers. also invest ina manifold you'd have a nice comno with just the headers, cam and intake. if you have time and not a ton of money take off your heads and porth them out or find some heads from the junk yard with bigger valves and port those puppies out. here is what i'd do if I was u. get some headers from summit... then a summit cam, and a weiland stealth intake. all of that would about around $450 or 500 and itwould make a HUGE diffence.
