Engine Honey and 10w-30 oil

My engine in my new convertable burns oil.....I need it to last through the winter untill I can transplant teh New 305(300 miles) into it.....I added 10w-30 oil and motor honey(the real thick gooie stuff)......anyway.....would there be a problem with this....I need the engine to last for about 6-10 thousand more miles.....it does not knock or ping or make funny noises...just likes to burn oil.....I need to pass NJ inspections.

no problem but i'm not sure it's going to help anything. any idea why it burns oil? valve seals or rings? synthetic may loosen and soften things up for a better seal, and then again it may not do anything. i've never had any use for oil additives and see no reason to use them.

You engine will probably do fine with a 300 mile trip. That engine honey does work but it ruins the oil. You might try some heavy oil like 20/50w that will help a little if its going through the rings.
Good Luck!

Be careful with synthetics... if you do decide to use them, it will probably stop smoking, but it will probably gobble the oil. Why? Synthetic burns relatively clear. (it's possible it will soften up deposits, but it could also make things worst)

IMO, Run very heavy oil... race oil, 20/50. Make sure you let your car heat up in the NJ winter though! If you can make use of a block heater use it! Or even take a lightbulb fixture and put it under the block at night when you park, then in the morning an hour or two before you leave plug it in to heat up the oil... (sounds funny but it works) 20/50 or even straight 40 or 50 is going to be like molassis going through your engine for the first 5 minutes or so, the warmer you can get it the faster, the better.

To help the car out a little... install a hotter plug, or even a hi-energy coil to help keep the plugs clean (keep them from fouling).. at the very least make sure the stock stuff is working well and keep an eye on the existing plugs.

Don't race it/push it too hard, keep an eye on things and you'll do just fine. Good luck with everything, I've been following your story unfold and I look forward to seeing you back on your feet again with this new car and your old drivetrain...

Oh, and to answer your question, motor hunny is fine... just really thick oil. Use it and see how things work out...

You might try to use some of the valvoline maxlife for engines over 75k my buddy used that stuff in his mousetank and it stoped it from burning oil it was leaking past the valve seals. We put castrol gtx and it got worse but the next change we put valvoiline max life in and no more smokey.
