i guess 2.73 granny gears ,all highway driving keeping it at 1200 rpm and a 700r4 really help but having driven a 2.73 rear 305 camaro for 10 years i dont remember ever getting 28 mpg .nice!!

Finally finished the bodywork and sprayed 2 coats of epoxy I had gotten back down to bare metal again in so many areas. If it warms up tomorrow like it should be will get the 2k high build on and off to block sanding!

I have been fighting my windshield wiper for 2 weeks now. I have changed the motor added extra ground and nothing helps. This is what it is doing.......I can unbolt the motor and connectors, then revolt and it works for just a min. When I turn them off. They will not come back on again. Can someone please help me. 82 firebird

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
Does the wiper motor work properly when you power it up to 12 volts but not connected to the car? if it does ,it seems like you may have a faulty switch/wiper stalk or wiring is wrong somehow, possibly a short.is your wiring a mess in the car,did someone cut, snip ,remove, alter, screw with and/or pretend it was a race car at any point, messing with the systems of it? mice eaten harness? could be one of several things, make sure the wiper motor works properly independant of the car, then troubleshoot what is wrong with the rest of it if it checks out.check each wire for continuity from the motor to the switch,i know its a pain but its the only accurate, foolproof way to troubleshoot it.

i looked forward to and read every post you made, how is it going.did the turbo setup ever get started? you were the reason i actually participated in this thread

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
lol yeah turbo kit got built. i literally jsut picked up my headers form getting ceramic coated. so turbo kit is gonna go back together this weekend then i can finally burp the cooling system, make sure the holley setup is happy. unfortunately im trying to sell my old wheels cause i got some c5 z06 wheels so i have no wheels with tires on them yet. got alot done since last post. tubo kit, swapped my 12 bolt in, plumbed the a/c setup (still tryin to figure out the wiring) bunch of little stuff here and there.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
Well after 10 months of my car sitting in mothballs I (along with a buddy of mine) was finally able to get it running again after changing out the following:
new 3 core radiator
new heater core
new vortex style fans with fan shroud
rewired fan harness
new transmission cooling lines
New oil with filter
new battery
these fans are a beast! The temp didn’t go above 180! All I’m missing now is a new upper radiator support since the old one will not fit anymore, and will come sometime next week!

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
i replaced the entire steering linkage, from the ends of the outer tie rods to the center link to the idler arm and pitman arm. Pitman arm puller with impact wrench made life a lot easier after using a torque wrench to loosen it from the steering gear box. didnt quite put it back the way i took it apart, but i got the tires back on and it off the jack stands and ill fine tune it in a few days when the heat dies down and then deal with rest of the front end suspension and struts/ball joint replacement.part of my sons project.

Swappers car is one of my favorite builds...wish i had the ***** and money to go turbo ls ...my non working family kind of takes its toll
...im lucky to afford gas occasionally.the alternative is to spend double/triple on rent elsewhere and not have a garage so im kind of stuck and it
pisses me off to no end.my rant is over, off to go feel sorry for myself.
however i did get my koni yellow struts in and finished off the engine compartment(for now with my limited resources)

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
this is when i first looked at it back in 2017,surprisingly this was in February in Canada...
thanks, that was my train of thought.i got lucky and found a close match in spray bombs.
that's also how i painted my hood and the heritage wing.its just a quick ,not so perfect
fix but at least it all appears to be one color if you don't look really closely...
its a 10/10 looks like a 10 from at least 10 feet away,lol.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
Today I'm installing my rebuilt Quadrajet back in my TA. I just finished replacing all the spark plugs except 6 and 8. The Hooker headers dont make it fun. After trial and error with a bunch of tools, it turns out a simple offset box end wrench did the trick. 6 and 8 look like an underneath job so I'll do that tomorrow.

chances are the plugs you missed were missed by the last owner too so they are fubared...if you have hooker 2460 headers it should be no issue whatsoever,i easily changed all 8.
of you have air conditioning the rear passenger side plug is a real b itch but worth doing and isnt as hard with the ideas i mentioned.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
if you have a carbed third gen(which you do) just use a spark plug socket and a wrench on the end of it.sometimes you can also use a wrench or modify the socket and make it shorter.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
I replaced my hatch pulldown.
I found one cheap on FB that someone had taken off a late-91, but didn't fit because his is an 80s car. I grabbed it for my 92.
He was a little sarcastic when I asked for more info, and just repeated the little that was already in the listing. But I gritted my teeth and went for it, and fortunately it works great. Now I'll find out what's cracked in the old one, and see if I can 3D print it.

I tried to install my new Proform Polished Slant Edge centerbolt valve cover to find out my AFR heads have shallow bosses. I didnt find out untill I snapped a bolt off between the cyl #7 valves. Still trying to remove the broken piece.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
ran new speaker wire to all the 4 locations, started setting up the new radio but the connector I bought is garbage. So I ordered an 8 port blade connector off eBay for the 4 speakers. I have to by pass the factory amp, it wont play nice with my 2 din radio, which has an amp built in anyway. I hate cutting factory wires so I am leaving the existing wiring in place with the connectors. New set of Pioneer 4x6s and 6x9s will be installed. Paint looks like garbage but the car is running great.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
A little less. Over here in germany, the price today is 1,68 euro per liter in my region for 95 octane (which is standard over here, you can still get 91 octane at some places but it is very uncommon and the "worst" fuel you can buy here). 1 euro today is 1,16 US dollar, so 1 liter in germany is 1,95 US dollar = 7,80 US dollar a gallon. The government knows how to rip us with taxes.

Replaced the water pump and took advantage of it and replaced the thermostat and coolant flush. The WP bearing was bad and dragging the engine down bad, especially with the AC on. Its a completely different drive now.

Nice work!.
Try a little muriatic acid mixture with water - something like 1:4 to for starters for the overflow/washer reservoirs to remove the yellow - just slosh it around and let
it sit. Then repeat. Worked for me!

Replaced the transmission mount bushing. As you can see the old one was shredded. No more shifter bounce on a spirited 1-2 shift. Also feel like shifting into Reverse is easier.
